“Lovely room and very accommodating hosts.”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

My cousin, daughter and I have just returned from a wedding in Salisbury. We stayed two nights at Spire House and Louis and John were the perfect hosts. My cousin had forgotten to mention my gluten free veggie diet when booking, but they pulled out all the stops to accommodate me (there is a large Tesco not far away, and we made a quick trip there for Gluten free bread). I neednt have worried as Lois had sourced some for me... Our room was top floor and at the back of the house overlooking their very pretty garden, and very peaceful. The only slight gripe (if i must have one) was that although we had a kettle in the room, the tea and coffee things were in the hall. There was every possible type of tea, coffee and chocolate (and biscuits) as well as fresh milk, but it would have been more convenient to have had a tea tray in the room with perhaps extras available in the hall... it was a bit of a hassle to go all the way down two flights of stairs to get everything each time we fancied a brew... i was also worried about spilling something on the way back up the narrow stairs. The house is absolutely spotless... and looks freshly decorated and Lois has a very distinct decorating style which works....i love the Bansky style stencil on the dining room wall of the maid sweeping the rubbish under the wallpaper! Unfortunately the house isnt big enough for a residents lounge, and the dining room doesnt have enough space for any comfy chairs, so we were confined to our room, but that didnt really matter. The breakfast menu is safe and not particularly adventurous but adequate for our needs. They made a bit thing about Lois' scrambled egg, and it was delicious, so that suited me.. The first day, i had at least a 1/4 lb of mushrooms to accompany it! There is a large bowl of fresh fruit salad which was lovely. Parking was down the road using a permit given to us by our hosts and it wasnt an inconvenience. If ever back in Salisbury, i will certainly return. A good nights sleep, welcoming hosts, spotlessly clean and well cooked breakfast. - great.

Room Tip: Room at the back are quieter. The stairs are steep so if climbing stairs is a problem, request a ro...

Hello again. Thanks for this lovely review it means a great deal to us. Thought I would tell you that we are making a few changes here at Spire House. We have recently installed fridges in two of the rooms and will add fridges to the other bedrooms over the next few weeks. So no more trips downstairs for fresh milk. Also we have plans in the New Year to introduce a guests sitting room. I am sure you can understand how delighted we were to read your thoughts about these very things, we do try very hard to change with the times and expectations of visitors. John and I hope to meet you all again one day and you can sample the new and improved Spire House :)

This was our first time staying in a Bed and Breakfast - and it exceeded our expectations. We're from Los Angeles, and Salisbury is a very long way from home. However, Lois made us feel at home at Spire House. I had emailed her before our stay to let her know that I am vegan - and she went out of her way to get all sorts of yummy food that I could eat for breakfast. The room was adorable and comfortable. We had a great time thanks to the care and attention of Lois.

Lois and John give you a very personal and friendly welcome. They help you to find the best place to eat and give you any advice you need. The rooms are comfortable and very cosy. We really felt very comfortable for our first stay in England.

Room Tip: if you like quiet rooms ask for the rooms looking to the garden

The rooms at the Spire House B&B make you want to stay in and relax in your room all day. I loved the unique rooms and regret not taking photos of them. Louis is a fantastic cook and gave spot-on restaraunt recommendations. It made us want to take the entire B&B with us on the rest of our tour of England. Thank you, Louis, for making us feel at home.

Thanks to Lois and John for a pleasant stay. The little touches mean so much to weary travellers (even though we hadn't come far!), especially the biscuit tin downstairs:-). Breakfast was more than adequate with fruit, cereal, toast, croissants, cooked options and a plentiful supply of tea and juice. The rooms were clean and spacious and we didn't hear a peep from the other guests.

We will return, not sure when but soon!

My wife and I spent 3 extremely comfortable and very peaceful nights with Lois and John at the end of September. Contact before our arrival was excellent and informative. Upon out arrival we were greeted very warmly by Lois and given some excellent local knowledge whilst we chatted about the nature of our trip before being shown to our room. It was very well appointed with a very comfortable four poster bed, large well fitted en-suite and decorated very tastefully with a nice blend of modern and traditional styles. The refreshments were served via a small table in the main hall, where you had your pick from a wide range of teas (including various herbal and fruit teas) and coffee as well as biscuits and fruit, before returning to your room to use the kettle there. This area was freshly stocked daily and made a very welcome change from the usual messy corner of the dressing table that is usually the standard in my experience.

The B&B is less than 50 yards from one of the four main gates of the cathedral, and access to the centre of the city is less than five minutes walk from the front door. We took the train to Salisbury on this occasion and the station was a ten minute brisk walk from Spire House.

Breakfast was a sight to behold. A choice of cereal, with delicious homemade toast to start, with more jams and spreads than you can shake a stick at. Orange juice and a choice of tea and coffee bursting forth from a seemingly bottomless pit in the kitchen. The choice of hot breakfast is very wide ranging and extremely good food is served whatever your order. My wife and I are both vegetarian and had more than enough choice to keep us happy. The full English breakfast served to some of our fellow guests looked very well stocked and the only murmur of complaint was that there was too much to finish but it was too good to waste!

An excellent stay with great hosts. We could not recommend Spire House more highly.

Room Tip: Spire House is on a relatively busy road. I can't comment on rooms to the front of the house bu...

We enjoyed the Spire House and meeting Lois & John. The location is perfect (near the cathedral) and though it doesn't look remarkable from the outside, inside is a warm and friendly home with wonderful hosts. They went above & beyond, booking our dinner reservation, always answering questions and more and doing so with a smile. Our room (top floor with fridge & breakfast bar) was spacious, great view of the cathedral and with an extra bed for our luggage. It was done in turquoise and I liked the furnishings and decor a great deal. I wouldn't hesitate recommending the Spire House to anyone visiting the UK. Be sure and see Stonehenge (only 15 minutes away) and we enjoyed the boys choir in the cathedral one evening at 5:30.
