Ok, so I'm going to chime in with the chorus of praise for Steve and Wenda, but seriously, they are so very hospitable, and friendly, and helpful...
When I arrived there and knocked on the door Steven greeted me with my name, so that was a nice surprise. :) Afterwards he brought in our lugagge and when he saw how exhausted I was he even drove my car to the parking lot.
In addition to providing us with every information we needed he and Wenda gave us clean and nicely furnished rooms (1 and 2, the two rooms on the first floor), in the bathroom we even found a sewing-kit in addition to q-tips, shampoo and body lotion. Breakfast was plenty, tasty and well prepared, too. They have recommendations for several restaurants where they'll give you some percents off the bill if you mention you're from The Cathedral View.

The location is great, obviously, room 1 has views of the spire of the cathedral, room looks out into the garden, so that's ok, too.

The one thing I'd like to mention is that you take breakfast at one table so small talk with the other guests is unavoidable. We were lucky enough to be seated both mornings with gracious and friendly people, but if it isn't your cup of tea to make polite small talk during breakfast you might want to ask for a time slot with little, if any company.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a view of the cathedral, room 2 looks out into the garden but it is a bit quieter.

Steve and Wenda are the perfect hosts - no reservations!
If you like to enjoy every aspect of the very best of English Cathedral life and hundreds of years of English civic development within 5 minutes level walking, book for a house party here.
We were treated to well appointed rooms, amazing breakfasts (try the full English and the scrambled egg and smoked salmon but don't miss Steve's own fruit salad and jams!) and we enjoyed the company of other fascinating guests from different continents thanks to the incredible personal welcome and attention to detail by our lovely hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and your hosts have amazing knowledge of everything that's best in Salisbury.

Room Tip: Room 2 is spacious, very comfortable, well equipped and quiet with views to the rear.

LOCATION
The Cathedral View is almost inside the Cathedral Close. It is a bit confusing to get there by car because of Salisbury's one-way streets, but you can navigate by the spire of the cathedral if all else fails (which it did in our case). We had no trouble finding street parking once we found the B&B and they also offer parking in a private lot. Once you've arrived, you can forget your car because everything is a short stroll on foot.

SERVICE
Steve and Wenda could not have been more helpful. Steve welcomed us and offered us maps and suggestions and offered to carry our bags to our room. It was very hot that day and my friend needed to re-pack some luggage which otherwise could be left in the car. Steve offered us use of the breakfast room AND set up a fan to keep us cool. They were both extremely friendly and helpful.

ROOM
We were two women friends and had the 2nd floor twin, #4. It was immaculately clean, with comfortable beds and great pillows. It was on the back,so didn't have a cathedral view. Instead, it looked out over some pleasant neighborhood gardens.

BREAKFAST
The breakfast was ample and very well prepared. On the second morning, I had the smoked salmon with my scrambled eggs, which was a real treat.

Overall, I recommend the Cathedral View highly and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: Room 4 was a very comfortable twin room.

These are some of the nicest people we met on our entire trip in Salisbury - and that says a lot since people are so friendly. The accommodations were very clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. They give you two pillows, which itself you might think is no big deal, but we are readers in bed and two pillows are required! The breakfast was literally made to order and was delicious. I especially appreciated the fresh fruit salad each morning. Steve, in addition to being the chef, is so well versed on things to do in Salisbury and the surrounding areas that the information center could learn from him! His points of interest and directions were spot on every time, and there are a number of establishments in Salisbury that will give you a special deal because you are staying at the Cathedral View. All the restaurants mentioned by Steve were great and well within walking distance. I would highly recommend this B&B and when we are back in the area we will definitely book again. Thanks Wenda and Steve for such a GREAT visit to the UK. diane and John

We were treated to a wonderful stop in Salisbury & this B&B was the perfect base for our plans to see the area! Steve warmly greeted us and kindly directed us to a nearby backyard car park. We were given a local map with his helpful tips & discounts for dining around Salisbury as Cathedral View guests.
Our well appointed, comfy room was tasteful, bright & had a jar of fresh homemade lavender bread by the room's personal tea service! Our bath had
wonderful water pressure, spacious countertop & back yard window. Cathedral style ceiling in both bath & bedroom. The bed was firm & seemed to be king-sized, next to a book shelf of additional helpful info on the area. (Our room was level 3, the top) Our travel mate had a front facing view on level 2 & was pleased just the same.
Turned out that our pick for dinner was a French bistro that Steve & friends had also selected! It was so welcoming to see their table of friends wave at us as we entered. The establishment brought our table a free round if kirs (champagne
+ raspberry liqueur), since we were Cathedral View guests!
Of course the town
of Salisbury is quaint & worth the trip from London. Laura Ashley, Tom Joule, boutique shops & department store in an arcade and picturesque streets in a small area that starts at the edge of the historic cathedral property. All I needed for shopping - beats London! The Salisbury Cathedral is a mere block from this B&B (thus the name, the spire is in view) & it was built in the 13th century. Evening vespers are at 5:30, though we missed with our arrival.
Our hosts gave us a menu in advance for choosing "full breakfast" items & selection of a time. My husband raved of their locally made Cumberland Sausage, and later had more but never beat theirs in flavor. All baked items were homemade on premise & the selection was lovely - fresh fruit, porridge / hot oatmeal, and more. Apparently the Brits enjoy baked beans at breakfast; something we only eat with BBQ & burgers. Theirs were "homemade" prepared their way; and we learned that a previous American guest may not have so appreciated, causing this establishment's 1st /only sagging Trip Advisor review! Shame that this bean affair sunk their rating a tad. They should remain a perfect score from what we can tell from our total experience!
Cathedral View also has a Facebook page & I can see that they have regular repeat guests & enjoy keeping up with many foreign guests. The owners travel in US often as well (winters).
I see why they remain booked so do make your reservation well in advance, whether for a Stonehenge visit or to see darling Salisbury & its magnificent cathedral, or if just passing through. Perfection.

Steve and Wenda were great. Their B&B is perfectly located a short walk from the train station through lovely Salisbury on bustling Exeter Street. You can cut right across the street and be at the Cathedral in a matter of minutes.

The rooms were immaculate, comfortable and Steve and Wenda were perfect hosts.

The breakfast was delicious!

When we come back to Salisbury in the future we will stay here.

Spent the weekend in Salisbury to re-visit the Cathedral and Stonehenge. Steve and Wenda provided a wonderful spot to stay. We could walk there from train station, visit all the sights in town and catch the bus to Stonehenge & Sarum. Steve's full English breakfast is the best. Also tried his American pancakes! Homemade jams & jellies; Wenda's yummy cookies. Very quiet, clean and good wifi! Nothing we didn't like & would definitely return when in the area.
