Really liked cranes. We had booked in advance and were sat in the conservatory area at the rear. Service was very good, staff friendly and attentive and the food of very good quality. Not cheap, came to just short of £200 for 4, but felt it was worth it. Only downside for me was how close the next table were to us, felt a little claustrophobic.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your experience at Cranes. Thank you for taking the time to write about it. I do apologise that you found the tables quite close together. We do try to seat people sensitively and we have found that customers prefer to have more tables, even though some are sometimes close, rather than to be turned away. The tables not in the conservatory are more spacious and we would be happy to reserve one of those for you next time if you prefer. We do also offer a special set menu at £10 for 2 courses so that we are able to cater for a range of budgets. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

We went to this bar last night as the start of a early work Christmas dinner. The place looks small from the outside but is actually really quite big and roomy inside. We were just staying for drinks and ordered the house champagne a bargain at £25 and then moved on to a nice malbec for under £20. We had some of the nibbles that were on the menu including the olives and spicy feta and i had a starter of lambs sweetbreads in mustard sauce.
The atmosphere in the place is really good with fast efficient staff, nice tables and cool feeling crowd around the bar.
Really liked the place, the staff and the wine list and would defiantly go back there to try some more of the food and wine. Top stuff

Thank you very much for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your wine and nibbles and that we looked after you well. We do make an effort to keep our wine prices comparable and often cheaper than our competitors. As you say the front window gives little impression of the size of the restaurant and the conservatory! Please do come back again and sample more of our menu.

Came in the other night with some friends for a meal and we all found it absolutely fantastic. The service was equally as good as the food, with very friendly staff! Will definitely be coming back again and I will also recommend to my friends and family!

Salisbury is a small medieval city that is inundated with pizza parlours, chicken shacks and burger bars so it is exceptionally pleasant to find a cosy place that caters for those of a more discerning palate. Cranes is just such a venue. Tucked away in its distinctive part of town it reflects the slightly quirky nature of Salisbury City. Those who care for you and your guests in this heady atmosphere have both the sense of fun and professionalism that such an eatery demands. Whether it is glass or two of decent wine, the odd beer or the full menu that you require, or whether you are a stuffy old fogy or a bright young thing it will make no difference, the attention you receive will be of the proper quality to get you doing what comes naturally to those who go out to enjoy themselves. (Those who find such enjoyment difficult might be better off staying at home!). The food is good, the greeting warm and friendly. . . and they even hang your coat up in that good old Jeeves fashion! The world needs places like Cranes so make sure you keep it up. Well done!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about us on this website. As an independant operation we do try to make ourselves quirky and unique - as you say we are vastly outnumbered by chain restaurants in Salisbury! We try hard to offer friendly and eficient service and good quality, reasonablly priced food and I thank you for pointing all this out and for recommending us!

We went to Cranes for my Brother's birthday party, along with 20 others in our group. The service was beyond reproach. The food was excellent, I had Scallops, Duck and Pudding taster's. I could not fault this lovely restaurant.
