“so disappointed”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

I took family and friends there for a treat, oh dear, disaster! The waitresses were giggling and speaking loudly in the restaurant upstairs and ignored us and 2 other couples. Mushy peas cold, chips warm. tables stunk of nasty sweaty old food. It said bread and butter. I questioned this and the waitress said it was a catering pack of margarine! It was awful and deserves to close. Why are the owners allowing incompetent staff to run the upstairs restaurant? I don't want to eat while the waitresses are eating their own meal, screeching, looking at their mobile phones and ignoring me. never again!

“Cold Food & no Butter for the bread”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

My colleague and I visited stoby's this afternoon for a well deserved late lunch. We ordered our food and I enquired about the "bread and butter" I was informed it was not butter but some sort of margarine "spread". I hate the stuff, surely if it states it's butter on the menu it should be butter!
The waitress said she would bring the manager, off she went. Our food arrived, it was cold and limp looking, still no manager and still no bread and butter. Clearly the manager was so busy doing nothing as the place was empty, that he couldn't even be bothered to speak to us. We left very disappointed. What a shame, standards are so low.

“Best fish and chips in Salisbury”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

Stobys is the best fish and chip shop in Salisbury!
Recently refurbished sfter it was half burn't down earlier this year (2012).
Stoby's is a restaurant and take away.
The cod is amzing its skinless, the batter is crispy and not very greasy. Lovely chunky chips.
Also sell sausages, pea fritters, fishcakes, mushy peas, sauces, etc etc.
They offer a meal deal of fish and chips, bread and butter and a cup of tea.
A cone of chips is £1 (bargain) or you can have small, medium or large.
Please try and see what you think.

“Best snack in Salisbury”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Love the chips at Stobys, like most other youths in Salisbury, Stobys is well known for its cone of chips, at just £1, they rival cheaper alternatives like Mcdonalds fries but taste so much better! The staff are lovely too, keep those cones coming!

“It could have been so good, but wasn't”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Early afternoon in the centre of Salisbury and the restaurant was almost empty. It looks like a traditional fish and chip shop so we went upstairs and ordered fish and chips. We waited almost 20 minutes which we didn't mind as I thought that it was a sign a fresh cooked chips. Unfortunately it wasn't. Whilst the fish was half decent the chips were ancient and had clearly been lying around for some time.
Another example of a business getting its money too easily. At £8.80 for poor quality fish and chips and a cup of tea, it was over priced.
It really isn't that difficult to cook chips fresh when you are not busy.
Cut your loss and go to one of the many fine restaurants in this city and forget Stobys and their fish and chips.
