“Huge Cathedral Close”
Review of The Close

This is (as claimed) the biggest Cathedral Close in the country, still with walls and gates around it. There are plenty of interesting houses around the close and every other one seems to be a museum or suchlike [they've all got their own listings on Trip Advisor]. But just walking around and getting the scale of the place, and the peace and quiet once you get a little away from the Cathedral tourists, is worth five stars on it's own.
P.S If you drive here, park elsewhere and walk in.

This must be the most beautiful cathedral close in Britain. There is so much to see and admire - the cathedral itself (obviously), Mompesson House, Arundells (the former home of prime minister Edward Heath, the Berkshire & Wiltshire Rifles Museum, the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum, as well as many other beautiful period buildings. In the centre is a large area of beautifully kept grass, dotted with a few statues - a great place to sit and read or have a picnic.

The area around the Salisbury cathedral is very calm and peaceful, with some pretty buildings and nice nature.

No better place to sit and relax on a hot day with a view that is second to none, before visiting the cathedral

This collection of buildings is incredible. We actually did the circuit twice because it is just so pretty with so much lovely architecture. And that is without looking at the huge cathedral in the middle!
There is plenty of parking nearby and also a park and ride. There is a tea room on one side too and plenty of grass to sit on and absorb the view.
The Close contains a multitude of buildings including The Rifles Museum, Mompesson House, Edward Heath's house and the Salisbury Museum and they are all spectacular, despite being spread over four centuries of history.
