on a summers day it is a lovely place to just sit and take in all that is happening around you. Ted Heaths house is there and I think you can still tour around it.

“The best of the Close”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

As a local keen to share our lovely city I recommend the Salisbury and S.Wilts Museum (No 65) which has at the moment an exhibition of works by Rex Whistler - A Talent cut Short - famous for his trompe l'oeil work at Mottesfont and other places - he was killed in 1944 aged 39. Upstairs are beautifully displayed Roman artefacts from Salisbury's twin town Saintes (Charente-Maritime) where the museum is showing objects from Stonehenge in a (first) Museum Artefact Exchange. Wheelchair access is downstairs and there is no lift but upstairs galleries can be viewed from downstairs on computers.
The Cathedral is showing modern sculpture inside and outside. There is always 'added value' in Salisbury and you won't go hungry with the Cathedral's self-service Refectory, the Museum Coffee Shop and the Military Museum's Bernières Restaurant.
Art lovers can also visit the galleries upstairs in the Library on the Market Place. (free).

“Beautiful open space in the heart of the City of Salisbury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

That the Close should be so close to the heart of Salisbury never fails to surprise. It is a great spot on a nice day to take a breather and enjoy the world pass you by, and it has more than its fair share of attractions. Obviously, the Cathedral is the centrepiece, but Montpesson House(National Trust), the Wardrobe (Military Museum, and Salisbury Museum are all in the close and well worth visiting. However, parking is strictly limited: visiting on foot is highly recommended.

“cathedral close”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

This Close is one of the best in the country it has everything, a beautiful Cathedral, lovely buildings, a great selection of museums, historical houses, somewhere you can sit and enjoy the exterior of the Cathedral which in itself is one of the best in the land. Sometimes if you time it right, the music and the excellent choristers are definitely an added bonus.

“Hub of historic Salisbury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Cathedral Close, only a few minutes from the main shopping area, gives you access to most of the city's primary historic sites, including the cathedral (obviously), the Salisbury Museum, the military museum, Mompesson House ( Nat Trust) and Arundels (Edward Heath's residence). It is a very pleasant place to picnic or chill out even if not visiting the various attractions. A walk through the arched gateway from the street is like stepping back in time.
