“Excellent food”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We ate here on Friday 22nd June after a long working week. The food was excellant. A vast array of fish and meat dishes. We both had rump steak, which was juicy and suculent and enjoyed the vegatables and potatoes rather than the normal garnish normally served with steak.
The service was very good and attentive, even a visit from the chef to check everythink ok. we would highly reccommend and will be visiting again soon

“Very nice food and great service.”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

The porton hotel has changed hands recently and I have experienced both the old and new owners. The new owners have transformed the porton hotel from a mediocre pub to a lovely hotel offering great food.

I visited for lunch on the 20th June with a relatively large group and the land lady was kind enough to send the menu out in advance so we could pre-order. The food was served very quickly and efficiently and the quality was great.

If you have been to the porton hotel in the past and have been disappointed I would urge you to give it a second chance!

“Lovely pub with excellent food.”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

Tonight we visited our local pub for a meal and at last had a fantastic meal. Over the last few years we have visited it from time to time as various people have taken over the pub only to be dissapointed, but tonight we were delighted to see thew changes made by Ash and Jasmin since they took over the pub. We had a wonderful evening. Ash and Jasmin are great hosts and take care to provide fantastic food and a wonderful atmosphere. The portions are generous and well cooked. The onion rings with my steak were made freshly and the best I have ever tasted! Good beers available too!

“Better options for lunch elsewhere...”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

Went there for lunch after a colleague e-mailed our order in advance. We were assured that everything would be ready upon our arrival. We had to wait a further 30 minutes until our meals turned up! When the meals did eventually appear, we had the following:

- Chips that had already been pre-salted!
- Baguettes that been over-cooked to a point that there was a danger of teeth breaking!
- Panini over-toasted
- Salad soaked in balsamic vinegar

The establishment has recently changed hands, but quite frankly things appear to have got worse from previous visits. This is the closest place to eat near my work, it won't be my first choice to eat there in the future from either a professional or personal point of view!

“Not a good experience - Could do better...”
Reviewed April 16, 2012

Visited for lunch and although open when we arrived, it was still 40 minutes before our food turned up. Arrived 1230 on a weekday, so not exactly out of core hours. Nice selection of Ales on tap. The menu/specials board is too 'stylised' (fancy) to read from a distance (see pics).
Prawn Salad had a very overpowering/fierce chilli dressing (& I'm no stranger to hot...). The signature 'Porton Burger', whilst freshly made had no hint of seasoning which let the meal down. Specifically requested no tomato due to allergies, guess what? - tomato's in the side salad...
For guests using the hotel, there was extensive building works going on adjoining the existing property and could impact the quality of stay.
We will not be back until we see some better reviews or new catering arrangements.
[Have subsequently heard others comment about the Porton Hotel along the same lines...]
