“Interesting visit.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

We called in prompted by some of the reviews on this site. A very informative guide talked us through the history of the building before showing us around inside. I enjoyed learning a little of his yachting exploits, and liked the many nautical paintings. Inside the house is quite cosy, the rooms not too large. I would have liked more time to view the cartoon collection. We were then able to wander around the pleasant garden in our own time.

“Surprisingly excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

It was my partner who wanted to visit Arundells (the home of former premier Edward Heath) having read good things about it. I was expecting it to be a mildly interesting way to pass the time. However it turned out to be something of a highlight to our stay in Salisbury. The huge amount of artefacts, and personal mementoes given to Edward Heath by many of the most famous people of the twentieth century, are really quite fascinating. The group who look after this place keep it beautifully and knew the man (and many of his visitors) personally. I can honestly say we learned a lot about a gifted man who, I must admit, it seems I've misjudged up to now! Well worth a walk around the vast riverside garden too.

“Revealing visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

I loved the look of Edward Heath's former home, and enjoyed the wonderful garden. Inside, I felt less happy. Heath's personal taste was reflected in his collections of sailing memorabilia, porcelain and pictures. His grand piano was covered with photographs of the world leaders. The guide was excellent, recalling his days as one of Heath's security officers with great affection. I was glad to hear about Edward Heath's friendship towards the cathedral, and his garden and lunch parties.
Somehow the atmosphere was a little sad. Heath's home needed him to bring it to life. An enigmatic character. I was very surprised to see the unique Chinese wall paper, and hear that in his later, stairlift days, the former Prime minister would pause his chair to study the detail of Chinese mythology he had commissioned.

“A Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We live in Salisbury and thought we would pay a visit to Sir Edward Heath's home Arundells in The Cathedral Close. It was truly a hidden gem of a place. The house itself is small and only the downstairs rooms are viewable. However, they are stuffed full of memorabilia - photos, gifts from foreign leaders, yachting mementos and, above all, lots of superb paintings. The guides are very knowledgeable and welcoming. Outside, the garden is much larger than pictures suggest and is full of delightful corners and paths down to the river. Whether you have fond memories of Sir Edward Heath or not, don't pass by the chance to see this lovely house and its garden.

“A living monument to a great international Change agent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Arundells is full of the personal artefacts collected by a British Prime Minister who enjoyed diverse talents of politics, sailing and music. This is a face of modern British history that comes to life with the wonderful guides who show you around Arundells. Don't miss it.
