This is the second time we have eaten here in 2 months. The first time, as a treat for my son's 13th birthday, the second for my birthday. The restaurant itself is lovely, very welcoming and comfortable. Nice to see the Rugby 6 Nations being aired on a large flat screen TV in the bar! The staff are very helpful and polite. The food, on both occasions, was nice, and I'm only sorry I could not use a more inspiring word to describe it. The 'non steak' options are good, if not a little small for the price. The Steaks however are decidedly average, and incredibly overpriced. £25 for the cheapest steak on the menu is a rip off for the quality of the meat. My husband on both occasions had steak (against my advice having been disappointed the first time), and was just set up for disappointment. What makes the Lazy Cow steaks worthy of being £10-20 (and beyond) more expensive than any other steak house/gastro pub is beyond me. Not being one to complain my husband did not cause a fuss, as he did not want to have to wait for another steak that would simply be identical to the first, you can't improve on the tenderness unfortunately. We will not be returning to the Lazy Cow simply due to the fact that the steaks are far too overpriced, and when we go to a 'specialist steak house', we want to be able to feel that we can eat decent steak, at a decent price, and not feel ripped off. Unfortunately it seems that this is the case here.

Ordered the Yorkshire fillet, came perfectly cooked with excellent chips, but all 4 of us on the table had our food accompanied with a rotten corn on the cob, literally !! After a word with the waitress and 10 minutes later we received a replacement corn. Although wasn't black like the last towards the centre, it was far from fresh and practically inedible. For a restaurant that is proud to tell everyone that its a Sunday Times 'Top Ten' with themselves advertising it everywhere, they seem to be riding on an outdated achievement. Their website still boasts Trip Advisors 4.5 stars... Obviously management don't check this anymore or respond to people's dissatisfaction.

For the price of the steaks, I would expect better. The steaks were OK - but just that. The service was slow and not particularly friendly. Its over-priced and could be so much better.

Turned up here late one night whilst on a business trip. The place was nigh on empty and first impressions were not encouraging, as the staff did not exactly welcome us with open arms.

But the chap who took our order was polite, cheerful and knowledgable (as was the lady who was in charge for the evening), and the steaks were first class - cooked just right.

The "shot glass" puddings were a fun idea and extremely tasty - well worth a try.

We went for lunch here in January 2013 but were disappointed. We both had the steak but the meat was rather fatty and had been cooked in too much butter and garlic. The meat itself seemed surprisingly tasteless (minimal if any seasoning) and the only taste it had was butter which gave it a greasy texture as well. The only other couple in the restaurant with us (on a rainy January mid-week lunchtime) also complained their food tasted like it had been done in the microwave!
