“Amazing hotel, lovely staff- the best by far in Salisbury!!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

I have stayed at the Lazy Cow on several occasions for business. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The bar and resturant are great with fantastic food offering.
Rooms are modern, clean and very comfortable!!
Having stayed in a few different hotels in Salisbury, this is by far the best hotel!!!

I have waited to write this review which will become clear at the end of my review.
My husband and I booked this hotel again as we had such a lovely stay previously and were very excited about returning.
We arrived on the Friday evening for a 2 night stay - stayed in a different room (Room 14) to our previous stay. First impressions were good but on further inspection we noted when sat on the bed a huge cloud of dust came off the bedding. There were no pillow protectors or mattress protector. 3 coat hangers in the wardrobe - 1 of which broken. The bathroom is huge but in need of some TLC - the grouting around the bath needed redoing, hot tap on the sink look and no plug for the sink. Generally the bathroom was in need of a good clean.
We opted to eat out on Friday as we had booked the restaurant for the Saturday.
We arrived in the restaurant for breakfast at just after 9am. We ordered tea and the waitress took our orders. We asked on several occasions how much longer our breakfast would be and ordered more beverages. Over an hour later our breakfast arrived, which was very nice but no toast. We were told we had to do our own toast and the waitress pointed to the toaster.
After a lovely day out in and around Salisbury we went back to the room to shower before going down for dinner, no hot water. Restaurant wasnt packed so we hoped to not have such a long wait as we had for breakfast. Our orders were taken fairly promptly. 40 minutes later we asked where our starters were bearing in mind it was only soup - over an hour later we asked again for our starters. 1 hour and 20 mins later our soup arrived with no bread which we had to wait for and starters getting cold. We ordered more drinks and enquired about our main courses and would there be a long wait - 35 minutes later our main courses arrived - food was good but by then we had lost our appetites.
The night didnt improve, we were awoken at 1am by the fire alarm - lasted about a minute and then went off - both had trouble getting back off to sleep.
We tried the shower again in the morning - but again no hot water.
Improvement on the service for breakfast and only had to wait 30 minutes.
On checking out we spoke to the Manager who had not been at the hotel all weekend but had come in due to the amount of complaints from guests. We explained that we had no enjoyed our stay this weekend and the reasons why. He didnt seem at all interested in the poor service in the restaurant but was sympathetic with regards no hot water for the whole of the weekend we were there.
We were offered our meal on Saturday and drinks on the house to compensate us and offered a night either at Salisbury or Warwick which is another of their hotels - we opted for Warwick as we had not visited that hotel and was promised that we would receive an email that afternoon with a voucher.
To date we have not received the email with the hotel voucher which the Manager said would be sent so we received when we got home on the Sunday afternoon.
What a shame the service and hotel has declined so badly and we will definitely not be returning to The Lazy Cow, Salisbury

Room Tip: Avoid Room 14 as not at all clean and there is a beam right across the middle of the room which my h...

Stayed two nights on a KGB deal. Upgraded to add my 10 year old daughter - we did not just get a camp bed as we expected, but a full sofa bed in a separate living room! Two huge flat screens, funky cow designs yet still preserving the ancent building.
Our room (4) was a bit noisy late in the evening, but to be fair it is a pub, and old buildings don't come sound proofed - it wasn't that bad.
The people were loevely, really helpful. We didn't eat other than breakfasts - these were freshly cooked and great food (wonderful choices, all included in the rate) although service was rather slow.
Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Room 4 is above the bar and faces the street - can be noisy.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a KGB deal. After waiting for quite some time before someone came to Reception to check us in, we were shown to our room (8) which was lovely and large, with the uneven floors and massive old fireplace expected of an old property. The bed was huge, and we appreciated the complimentary water and expresso machine. However the shower room was tiny by comparison, and the entrance very narrow. The shower was not spotless and there was a hole in the window that needs to be fixed. Hanging space was minimalist, but there were plenty of drawers.
Breakfast was very good, with a wide choice of freshly cooked meals, cereals, and specialist teas. The staff may want to think about putting a wastebin under the cabinet, to take empty cereal boxes etc.
Our room over looked the courtyard, and this meant for a noisy night on the Saturday. OK if you have earplugs, but otherwise, it could be difficult to sleep.
The Lazy Cow is probably the nearest to the Cathedral, which is just a short walk through the wooden doors on the opposite side of the road; an excellent location.
Parking is via the White Hart, Mercure Hotel next door, but nevertheless a bit of a treck with luggage. Although not cheap @ £10 per night, it is probably good value for Salisbury.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a large bathroom. Pack some earplugs if staying over the weekend. Remember to...

We spent two nights to break up our journey to Cardiff. We managed to get a two night deal through the KGB offer. Stayed in one of the log rooms and had breakfast included. We liked the restaurant so much we also ate there both nights in the evening (steaks and ribs were tremendous). Staff are all really friendly and helpful, food was excellent and lot of nice touches in the rooms - large TVs, free wifi, nice bathrobes, Nespresso coffee machines. We normally stay at Hiltons as we get upgraded, but this was a nice change. If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary, without compromising quality, the Lazy Cow ticks the boxes.

Took friends here for dinner as we live locally. Service was poor, drinks terrible, peroni not in peroni glasses. Cloudy ale. Food expensive and not a lot of it. They had run out of many items but did not tell us until we began to order. Small table, slow service. Sorry lazy cow we won't be back, we won't be encouraging friends to dine with you either. You need to sort out the bar housekeeping and train waiters to serve and clear table quicker.....disappointing
