Having expected a hill fort, it was really interesting to find a castle ruin and a fantastic view - on a sunny day this is a lovely place to visit, and the entrance price is cheap!

Cold but very interesting. Car park near the entrance with toilets. Good new shop at entrance. Interesting displays round the castle explaining the history. Great view over Salisbury and the countryside.

After several childhood visits with school, which left vague memories of long walks and boredom, I decided this year was the time to revisit the Castle, and was pleasantly surprised by how interesting the ruins actually are to me as an adult with a vague interest in history. I'm planning to go back next year, a bit better prepared and wearing more sensible shoes!
The earthworks were one of my favourite dog-walking places, and I still visit several times each year for an hour's walk, wander about the cathedral ruins and potter along the perimeter - sometimes on the inner height, occasionally right round the outside.
Best of all, the walk is FREE! Just wrap up warm, as it's always windy up there!

Visited Old Sarum a few months back when there was another historic event going on depicting what life would have been like during those days. A great family day out and very informative. The sight is really nice to walk around on a day to day basis. Brilliant views of the city as well.

If you only visit one site whilst in Salisbury, visit Old Sarum - this is the Old Salisbury. Lovely views and walks around ths site, with lots to set the imagination alive. Worth reading the book "Sarum" for the story of this aite this site and the history of Salisbury since the Ice Age.
