I don't know what I expected but I didn't expect what I got. Staff in the rooms not very helpful and in fact the one in the library was more interested in reading her book then talking to us.
If you want to visit a house and don't expect to see much then this is the place for you
Oh did I mention that it costs you more to enter if you want to leave a gift aid!!!
£5.50 entry of gift aid £6.20 not sure where hat came form
The most disappointing NT premises I've ever been to
Sorry I don't like leaving negative feedback but I just can't help it of this place....

We loved this house, magnificent plasterwork, fine period furniture and a superb oak staircase greet you as you enter the front door and it continues throughout the house. The gardens are also delightful so all in all a must visit when in Salisbury.

this National Trust House was lived in by it's prior owner for 97 years and has some lovely furniture and paintings to see. The gardens and small tea shop are a must to visit too.

The house is in the Close, so this could be part of a planned visit to the various Museums, and the Cathedral.
Mompesson has a marvellous collection of furniture - each room furnished as it might have been at the height of the house's fame.
Very good guides will answer questions, and show the highlights.

If you visit Salisbury, you have to visit this house! I've been going to National Trust properties for years and this was a refreshing change from the big, grand country mansions. (Not that there's anything wrong with that! ;)) But the moment you step over the threshold, you can immediately feel that this is a well loved and "lived-in" house. Warm, cosy...with fascinating and beautiful interiors.

The room stewards were very helpful and gave very interesting anecdotes and information about the house and all the little trinkets and oddments within. Of particular modern interest is that the house was used as a filming location for the Alan Rickman/Emma Thompson adaptation of 'Sense and Sensibility'.
