“Perfect for mid week sight seeing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2011

The inclusive breakfast was first rate, the room was clean cosy and comfortable. The private shower room was immaculate( note these are not en suite as its a middle ages inn and building regs make this impossible ! But its immediately opposite room). The service was charming and you can park your car securely in nearby white hart for 24 hours for a tenner. Not open at week ends as bar is open to 1am and incompatible with sleeping guests! And they want their customers to have a good experience.

My wife and I with a few friends did a tour of England, mostly interested in history, food and spirits. The New Inn delievered on all counts. It is a very old pub, the ceilings are quite low as people were not as tall in the old days, and has expanded by adding space from adjacent, old buidlings. The owner, Radhel, was a delight. She gave us a lot of information on local history and history of the buildings, including info on the resident spirit. The pub had a ncie beer, ale, wine and spirit selection and the food was very good. The garden old back is well tended and has a very nice view of the cathedral. Parking across the way is quite expensive but Rachel will make arrangements to park down the road. The rooms are not en suite the the bathroom is easily accessible and each room has its own. We had a great time in England but this was one of our favorite places.

I have eaten here on many occasions for lunch, usually in the Summer and used the garden which is lovely with fabulous views of the Cathedral. The lunch menu is good and fairly priced. However i had not eaten here for an evening before. We were a group of 10 and were sat in a room with no other customers, there was no background music and no atmosphere. The food was pretty tasteless and lacked seasoning. I had the steak and ale pie which was a lot of pastry with little else and no taste. The staff were attentive and polite. I would say if you were eating in the main part of the pub then the atmosphere would b better. I felt the evening menu was a little overpriced.

If you were eating here at lunch time then i'm sure it would be fine but i will not eat here again in the evening. The pub is beautiful and will be a hit with the visitors to Salisbury.

The toilets were grubby, smelly and very tatty.

Go in the Summer, eat at lunch time and sit in the garden. Average for an evening meal.

I stayed one night here. Location is good: 10-15 minutes walk from the station, and literally around the corner from the cathedral. It is in a 15th century building. Ceilings are low (tall people be careful) but the room is spacious and has a lot of character. Not ensuite, but the room has a private bathroom with key access across the corridor. The bathroom is very modern, with hot strong shower. Both room and bathrooom are spotlessly clean.

It is a pub downstairs, which close at 11pm. But late into the night (morning) I could hear something like kegs being moved around downstairs. The room faces the street so I was woken by a garbage struck at 6am. Consequently didn't sleep too well. Bring ear plugs.

The pub downstairs sell their own brewed ales, which are interesting to try. Dinner is also served, which is convenient. Both dinner and breakfast are very generous. I couldn't believe the portions that were brought to me. The manager Rachel is very helpful and kind, and made me feel very welcome.

The room was beautiful, "old-fashioned" in the most positive way. You can see and feel that this building is from the 14th century. But the rooms were carefully restored to meet all the standards you would expect from a good B&B. The bathrooms are perfectly modernized, the shower is big (...much bigger than in some other B&B's.). The bathroom is on the other side of the corridor, but each room has its own private bathroom.
The pub was the other highlight of the stay. It is absolutely nice and cosy, very clean and with a perfectly friendly atmosphere. In the back, there is a nice beergarden, well-groomed with a lot of flowers. Moreover, there is a beautiful view on the cathedral.
The pub is very well-situated so you can reach all sightseeings within minutes by foot.
One fact needs to be considered: the rooms are located above the pub. That means that it is noisy until 11 pm when the pub closes. However, afterwards it is quite.

Although i have never stayed at The New Inn, i have never been able to fault the food and the service and after years of coming here, i'm always quick to recommend it to people who don't know the area and who are looking for a good meeting place. The food is such good value and always tasty; there may be the occasional member of staff who could do with a little more training, but everybody has to start somewhere and as long as they're polite, i usually don't mind.
The outdoor seating area is definitely a bonus and the pub itself is charming.

What a Great Pub..... Enjoyed the fresh cooked food and the atmosphere. The Garden is welcoming and beautifully landscaped - It was a real surprise. Views of the Cathedral were a real bonus. Staff were both friendly and helpful. Hard to fault! Would recommend to friends and will definitely be back.
