“I'm coming out!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2014

Yes it's true, after years of sneaking out in my best suit on a Saturday afternoon clutching my briefcase and telling those who ask that I was a part time insurance agent, I can now reveal it was all a lie. I am a Freemason! We are now allowed, nay encouraged, to go public and boast that we are the second biggest givers to charity in Great Britain after the National lottery. What's this got to do with a hotel review I hear you ask? Well, at this time of year, especially, Freemasons like to take themselves off for weekends to celebrate their 'Ladies Festival', it's our way of thanking our spouses, girlfriends, and mums for putting up with our frequent trips to the Masonic Hall during the year. Bournemouth is a hot spot of Masonic weekend breaks during the months of March/April, much welcome income for the hotels there off season. This year we went to Salisbury, for a change, and what a great town.....sorry city it is. Imagine ninety plus guests pitching up about Friday lunchtime and all demanding a personal service. The staff were cool, calm and efficient and we were soon unpacked and heading into town, ten minutes stroll along the banks of the Avon, to explore the city.
This is a fine hotel but..........there always has to be a but, in common with many other fine hotels I couldn't get a drink! Beer I mean. English ale. Not that ersatz foamy concoction that many Northerners seem to enjoy. May I respectfully suggest that the Bar Manager wanders across the road to the George and samples what they have to offer, I can recommend the Ringwoods Bitter, I had one or two. Southern England has a fine and ancient tradition for ale so when hotels' boast of sourcing local produce it should always include a local brew.

Room Tip: We filled the hotel and a couple of B&B's around the corner, this resulted in the function r...

This was a break organised as a 'catch-up' for family members; three sisters and their respective husbands. The hotel is clean and comfortable, is an easy walk from the city centre and has good parking. The staff smile, they are skilled and helpful, the food is of good quality, there is plenty of choice, it is well cooked and beautifully presented. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and have plenty of space. During our visit one of our number was unwell and needed to stay in the room that day; the staff could not have been more helpful, the housekeeper even offered to go out and buy a hot water bottle. I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone and we hope to visit again.

Thanks to the reviews we chose this hotel when visiting family in Dorset. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel was clean and the room was spacious and quiet. Five minutes from the city centre meant that walking to the shops or the cathedral was no problem. The bus stops for places like Stonehenge were just on the road outside the main entrance. The free parking was another bonus. The breakfast was superb, and we recommend a stay here!

Researching for a venue for a forthcoming family event we came across this hotel on TA and chose to have a dry run in the Restaurant to verify the quality of the food. We were not disappointed in any way. The menu was affordable - the balance between price choice quantity worked well. Service was good. We were shown rooms in anticipation of our booking by their event arranger and even though we will not be a large party guests will come from many directions. Little things like making arrangements for cakes for the day and "A nothing is too much trouble" approach stopped our venue search in its tracks. Although several months away we have confidence in our choice for this special day. Our search has ended.

Room Tip: The Executive Doubles have a few more "bells and whistles" than the standard double. Both...

Bearing no resemblance to the advertisement we were not offered champagne and the pot of tea was served 10 minutes before the selection of sandwiches and cakes arrived. When they did they were haphazardly arranged onto a glass cake stand which was badly watermarked. There were no napkins. The clotted cream had turned to cheese and was inedible. With no sign of any member of staff anywhere, we drank our tea and could have left without paying had we not sought out the hotel receptionist. This was not worth £12.95 each and we shall not be returning.

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend with a large group. Having taken part in many such events over many years, this was by far the best hotel. The rooms and food were excellent. What particularly excelled was the attitude of every member of staff. Without exception they made a point of exceeding expectations with every request. Salisbury is a charming compact city, full of interest with an outstanding traditional Charter Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Milford Hall lived up to all expectations when I was recently in Salisbury on a work trip.
The room was very comfortable; great bed. The staff are attentive but not imposing, and the food was great. Its also an excellent location, just 5 minutes walk from the market square.

Room Tip: 112 at the end of the annexe, very quiet.
