Ranked #37 of 58 Salisbury B&B and Inns

I stayed here with my mother this weekend and we were very pleased with this B&B: the location is absolutely ideal, it is tucked away on a quiet road with only a short walk into the centre of Salisbury (about 5 mins - impossible to get lost); the staff were all very friendly and allowed us to check-in early without any hassle; breakfast was freshly made and very tasty; the rooms were perfectly fine - everything worked and they were clean and warm. The room was basic but functional and there were endless supplies of tea and coffee making facilities. Overall, we would strongly recommend this B&B to other visitors.

My mum and I stayed here in September before a sponsored walk. After some initial confusion over our booking (a twin room) we were given 2 rooms at no extra charge and with no hassle. Rooms were clean, attractive and very comfortable. We were left a lovely cold breakfast as we were up very early. We were very impressed and would definitely recommend Byways guesthouse.

We booked a room for 2nights going on other people's reviews,we weren't disappointed. So handy for the city centre, bonus was the free parking.Room was slightly on the small size but for a 2 night stay was not a problem,we were'nt expecting a cooked b/fast so it came as a nice surprise and was so filling that we didn't need to eat again until the evening.Hotel was warm the room was clean.the bed comfortable what more could you ask at that sort of price.
A nice place to stay for a short break.

While the owner & staff were polite did feel a lack of friendliness, something missing.Given a map to find your way around. As long as you dont mind the walk up the hill from the town,it isn't too far. Can't fault the bed with mattress topper. One pack of 2(lush) biscuits to share!Food excellently cooked.Water in thermos had got lukewarm,a lot of walking to & fro for tea& toast, lucky if you got the timing right to eat with breakfast, toasters annoyingly slow to do decent toast.

Room Tip: Check your requirements, seems there are various sized rooms added onto the back of the main house.

Great location for exploring Salisbury, which is such a wonderful city. We had 4 nights in this B&B and enjoyed our stay. Very clean, well kept, bright and airy. Beautifully warm in the evenings. Lovely breakfasts - tried most things on the menu over the 4 mornings - all A1. A couple of things were disappointing though - the shower temperature adjusting ring was broken so one could not change the water temperature. The radiator did not come on in the same shower room so it was fridge-like! We drew this to the attention of one of the ladies of the house but nothing changed! Although there was plenty of tea n coffee the biscuits were not replaced after the first night. The availability of a car park was a big help. I would recommend it but bring your own biscuits!

Room Tip: Ours was on the third floor and had a very small window but the redeeming feature was a view of the...

First impressions mixed though the old house grew on us and after staying in modern hotels the eclectic mix of pre and post war furniture in this hotel seemed to fit the surroundings. Endless supplies of tea and coffee were a welcome change from the regulation two of each. Parking a real bonus as Salisbury can be difficult and expensive to park in. The breakfast as said in title was freshly prepared and set us up for the journey home.

Byways House is a large, old Victorian (?) house just a few minutes’ walk from Salisbury.
We booked this a bit last minute as we were just passing through Salisbury.

Our room was a bit make shift. We felt that it needed some TLC (tender loving care) – It felt rather minimalistic and in need of a makeover.

There were electric cables showing out of the plug, lots of plug adapters as there were not enough sockets, the TV cable was just running across the floor – just made it feel a bit make-shift. The closet was untidy with old coat hangers, a fan and a put-me-up bed in there. When you opened the closet door the mirror on it banged about as it wasn’t fixed on correctly.
It could have done with a touch up on the painting as everywhere was showing signs of wear and tear. The bathroom was fine, little bit small and we couldn’t get the radiator to work.
Breakfast was tasty. Good scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and a nice range of cereals, breads, cakes and hot and cold options.

Toast was a DIY affair (never sure why a B&B thinks that this is a good idea – think it just gets them out of doing it and forces the guest to loiter around the dining room waiting for bread to toast). The toasters were sadly not adequate and took a long time – sounds fussy, but when you realise that it’s DIY toast at the last minute, timing is important whilst your breakfast goes cold. They need to invest in some commercial toasters that work faster.

I also never do like the open plate of marmalade idea. Why can’t they provide a small pot with a lid? Plus some guests behind us also didn’t like this idea.

We did feel that this was a guest house rather than a bed and breakfast, due to the size of the place and it’s the first place we've stayed in where we didn't meet or see the owners?
