“Ancient and Modern”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

This is a truely wonderful building. It is hard to believe construction began in 13th centuary. The height of the ceiling above the choir with beautiful old decoration is breathtaking, as are the stained glass windows. Old and new mix very well from the oldest working clock in world (it has no face and only strikes the hours) to the beautiful modern font which could almost be described as a water feature, installed in 2008
Another modern feature is the lovely glass memorial prism to the artist Rex Whistler by his brothee, Laurence. This is in the Morning Chapel.
Do not miss Chapter House which contains one of the four surviving copies of Magna Carta.
The Cathedral has the tallest spire in Britain. Tours are available on most days.
There is pleasant restaurant serving a good selection of food and a smallish shop.
Amazingly there is no charge for admission to either the Cathedral or Chapter House. However there is a suggested donation amount and boxes are well displayed.

“Wonderful!”

It's wonderful to visit the Cathedral, it's so beautiful, definitely check it out if you are there. It's the landmark of Salisbury.

There, please be sure to see the Magna Carta and the Marble Frenzie in the room where Magna Carta is located.

what a glorious cathedral. difficult to imagine that the construction took place in the 1200's. quite a feat of engineering. beautiful architecture, the size of the interior is breathtaking. we were staying in Minchinhampton but it was definitely worth the one hour+ ride to see this church.
