“Amazing place”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

I booked this through a deal with KGB and stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of October and it was amazing. The room was lovely, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was wonderful and the service/staff were exemplery. I would recommend this to anyone and well worth the money I paid for it. Its close to Salisbury and Stonehenge, ideal for exploring.

“excellent!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Don't believe the bad reviews. We stayed here for one night only. Location is great. Easy to get to, ideal start if you want to visit Stonehenge the next morning (we were first). Lovely village just over the stream and some excellent walks around - we got chatting to locals! Would definately go back.

New owner Daniel was great. Efficient on the phone and very prefessional. We had 2 bedrooms for 4 people and both rooms were great. No road noise. We had an excellent meal and enjoyed playing 10 pin bowling.

Nothing was too much trouble. Offered us an early breakfast, late evening meal..... First class all round.

Really good place.

“New management = AWFUL food”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

I've been to this pub for lunch and dinner a number of times. It used to be great - little pricey but the quality was smashing so would happily pay. I read in the paper they'd undergone a refurbishment / change of management so decided to see what it was like. I was SO disappointed. There was a sort of sickly sweet customer service style associated with chain restaurants which was not fitting for a country pub, and the food was god-awful. I object to paying £3.95 for a tiny rubbish 'nacho bowl' which was cheap tortilla chips, a dash of salsa and a tiny amount of cheese and cream on the top. It was pathetic.
The burger, which used to be great, has changed - it's cheap quality, hard, and the ciabatta roll it came in was undercooked and doughy. Awful. My partner had a pie which was run of the mill.
What also really annoyed me was they had advertised all over their website and outside the pub that there was a lunch deal - 3 courses for £9.95. It didn't say that it was only valid Monday-Friday (we went on a Saturday in August). If I'd have paid that little for the rubbish I ate, I wouldn't have been so disappointed. But to pay a considerable sum for such appalling food is nothing short of madness.
Needless to say, we won't be returning. They have ruined what was a smashing place to have a lovely meal. AVOID.

“Warm welcome -- we will be back!”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

On arrival Dan, the manager, made us very welcome and carried our bags to the room, our home for 2 nights.
The room was a fair size with all mod cons including a hair dryer -- not that I need one!
We Dined twice in the clean bar area, good beer to, thoughly enjoying both meals, -- so much I was told by the better half to thank the chef -- fantastic steaks!
Breakfast was equally good --a varied, freshly cooked choice from the menu plus cereal and as much tea, coffee and juice as you want all served politely by Dan.
Julie, the chambermaid is an absolute delight, very helpful and always so very happy and cheerful.
The Swan is on the A38 providing easy access to Salisbury and not too far from Bath, about 30 miles - however it can be a busy road.
Really enjoyed our stay and intend to visit the Swan again - possibly breaking the long journey from Essex to Cornwall.
