We visited The Manor while at the stone circle. The exterior is mellow stone and stands in walled gardens and grounds. All within the stone circle around the village. The interior is interesting as it was created for a BBC TV programme To The Manor Reborn. So in this instance you can touch everything and sit on the furniture and even the beds, as these are not antiques. If visiting Avebury The Manor should be on your itinerary too.

Come for tea, tour this historic manse that takes a different look at the centuries, with rooms furnished and decorated to highlight different fashions and uses over time. Everyone should go to Avebury. And include this unique experience. This is a great stop and counterpoint.

Really enjoyed our first visit to Avebury Manor. Delightful well kept gardens, friendly guides in the Manor. Encouraged to touch things and sit on things. An added bonus is a walk around the ancient stone circles. If you are disabled there is no disabled parking in the main car park. However if you go into the village there are several disabled spaces in the village car park, its for residents and disabled only. Its a walk from the main car park to the Manor.

I am ashamed to say that we did not intend to visit the Manor on our visit to the Stone Circles. However, it was freezing during the walk and our Aussie friends need some respite from the cold. We got timed tickets and went into the Manor. We were greeted and told how the house is 'shown' in different periods in time. Each room is decorated in a different style. Our room stewards, or guides, were excellent, bringing the rooms to life for people of all ages. Kids were encouraged to dress up, jump on beds. Adults to play the piano etc. This policy of active engagement works so well, and the kids seemed engaged with the house. We loved our visit, as did everyone around us. Thanks to the unpaid volunteers who made our day so special.

Third visit to Avebury, this time we were a party of twelve, we had a glorious walk, and a lovely picnic, then went back to visit the manor. The children wanted to do the Easter egg hunt, so we went to the stand in the garden, where it appeared you collected your form, only to be told they had to go back to the barn to buy a ticket! Why?? Why aren’t the tickets sold in the same place? Trekked back to barn to purchase tickets, ten pounds for four of them, to get a 50p egg each!
Things got worse! Went to go in the house, have we booked a time? No we weren’t aware we had to! We’d spoken to plenty of NT staff by this time, no one had mentioned it! Has an unsatisfactory conversation with man on door, who only seemed to have one set of responses to every question! Trekked back to barn, ages to wait, gave up and came home, very disappointed children, I rarely have a bad thing to say about NT properties, and generally love their volunteers, but not best pleased today!
