Visited on Saturday (unable to book at this branch but didnt have to wait long). I had lamb chops and butter chicken (asked for it hot) with keema rice. The whole meal was sooo tasty. There were 6 of us in our group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Highly recommend.

Once only four of us came on a regular basis , then we became five before one left for Cyprus . So the four of now come most weeks and have never reviewed the restaurant. That's right from the early days , up to last Friday night and we will be in situ again this Friday night. So what's important is to know the staff .and they will look after you. We suggest that you restrict the number of popadoms but go heavy on the pickles. You will need those for the starters. So last week two had the chick pea starter portions and two of us had the kebabs. Do remember they are for real, no stupid red additives, just lamb and spices, hot spices! That's why you need the mint yoghurt to cool you down. One reality , lots of folks lead lonely life's and thus come out to shout and show the world they have had a birthday do here. Thus you will be entertained by the loud , uncoordinated singing of the worlds ( least in our view) most popular song. We accept this a price we must pay before the main course arrives. This you will have ordered with precise instructions to your waiter. This can be as is, Asian style, mild , medium or hot, with or without chillies and dry , normal or saucy. None of this is on the menu, this is personal!
Last week one Madras chicken , Asian style give the expected hot sweats on the brow. Very tasty we were told , but he eats so fast we wonder how he knows. The chicken madras with extra potatoes and tomatoes was eaten slowly and with loving care. This was voted excellent . Onto our bargain hunter and his chicken dupiaza is so good he only eats half and the rest is taken home for another meal. Then I had lamb rogan josh, a dish fit for a slimline like me ( who tells fibs for a living) that was superb in quantity , quality and taste. Much better than the week before.
We tend to down play the nan on a sword, still it pleases the masses, and plump for a few roti and the odd dish of pilau rice.
Do remember that the service you get is great but very individual , you are not expected to be in a rush and it is a crime for the waiting staff to clear a table without taking everything . They would have to leave and work at some crummy casino restaurant if unable to clear the table in one go.
Also remember that to drink plenty of water is the correct way to eat and drink . The management , very wisely, do not insist on this , and us poor pensioners enjoy the young disregarding this basic of Asian eating out.
So why is this the most popular restaurant, of any type, in Bradford and has been duplicated in most major cities? First , it serves great curries , yes, I have Indian friends who find them too strong for them , but they do not know how to personalise , then they would appreciate the great basic taste of Akbar . Secondly it is such great value for money. I and my friends have entertained guests from all over England and non have found or know of better value for money. Thirdly it is what it is . It is a restaurant serving the best in Kashmir cooking, it is smart and presentable, but money is not wasted on fancy serving pots, weird shaped plates and unusable cutlery. Because it is successful and at times very busy, it gets it wrong, but nearly always will but it right with a genuine desire to please. We have had over two thousand meals over the years and can only remember a handful that went wrong. To the critics , try harder to be pleased, to the rest lets continue saying are we having an Akbar tonight
