Description: Brasserie 44 is an informal waterfront restaurant in the Calls area of central Leeds. Under the beamed ceiling, a contemporary cream and wood interior with a lively mix of business and casual diners adds to the cosmopolitan buzz. An attractive bistro-style menu has soaked up plenty of Mediterranean flavour, while an early bird option offers a 25% discount for those who want to eat and run.

We first went here on a busy Valentines day a few years ago. The food & service were both excellent & when we booked a night on Leeds this was our first choice of restaurant. Our table was booked for 8pm, as it wasn't ready we were offered a drink in the bar. Service here was faultless. Bar man was very knowledgable on the wine & allowed my partner to taste the two he couldn't decide between. Unfortunately it went downhill from here. We didn't sit at our table until 8.40. The menus were delivered swiftly but sadly it took another 20 minutes for our order to be taken & then a number of dishes were no longer available. We got out starters at 9.15 & our main courses at 10pm. At which point I had gone past being hungry. There seemed to be two main causes, not enough staff and one party completely monopolising the one waiter there was. He was doing his best in difficult circumstances & we didn't want to make his night even worse by complaining so left without providing any feedback which we normally provide on the night.

Visited Brasserie Forty Four when my parents came to Leeds for the weekend. It came highly recommended and certainly lived up to my expectations.

The intimacy of the restaurant makes dining an absolute pleasure and the service was excellent.

Lovely location on the canal too- nice for a little post dinner wander.

There is a small menu but everything we had was cooked to perfection.

Seven old college friends, of many years standing, meet every six months "somewhere in the north". Although we have met in Leeds before, this was the first time in Brasserie 44. The word to describe it was excellent- value, ambience, food, service. We had a 3 course lunch with wine, an amuse Boucher and coffee for less than £30, to include a tip. We have paid that in a pub before. This is a classy place, and we are going again. And again. And again!

four of us had the chateaubriand for main, which was exquisite. Our starters; king scallops, chicken liver parfait, corned beef hash & celeriac, goats cheese risotto- all were done to high standard. waiter noticed I'd left third of parfait & asked if I'd like more bread, which I thought was a lovely touch! complimentary bread, tapenade & water was brought to table upon arrival. It is perfect. A must place to eat.
