Holiday Inn Express Leeds City Centre-Armouries

I stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a conference at the Armouries. The room was clean and well equipped - provision of a selection of pillows - firm and soft - was a nice surprise. The staff were lovely - especially Gareth and Andy - and were very helpful. The proximity to the venue was excellent. The complimentary breakfast was very good and I also sampled the evening menu which was good and value for money. Well done Holiday Inn Expresss.!

My friends and I travelled to Leeds in January 2011 for the night and this is where we stayed over.

Right let's cut to the chase; the hotel is in a cracking location, situated moments away from the Royal Armouries Museum and literally just a couple of minutes away from the city centre. As like many other Holiday Inns, they're very consistent in terms of customer service, standard of rooms etc. and this hotel was no exception. The staff were friendly enough and helpful in terms of car parking facilities which was in the form of a multi-storey car park next door to the hotel. The hotel rooms were basic but clean, as was the bathroom.

To be honest, its hard to find any faults with this hotel but if you happen to be eating at the hotel then you will most certainly find one. The next morning, we had breakfast in the hotel as it was included with our room and I must say, it was one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had, if not the worst. The queue to get to the breakfast buffet was almost up to the reception desk and when we finally got to our table with food in hand, it got even worse. The beans were cold, the toast was dry and the less said about the sausages the better. The choice was very limited and hardly classed as a 'full breakfast', more like a 'cold starter'.

Overall; a basic, friendly hotel in a fantastic location in Leeds but please be wary of the food. I just can't help but think that if we'd had stayed longer, more 'cracks' in the wall would have been discovered.

Floor: 3rd floor
Staff: very friendly, - excellent service
Hotel: modern, comfortable, clean, friendly, well presented reception
Room: clean, flat screen TV, no mini-bar
Bathroom: en suite bathroom, clean, hair dryer
Dining room: well kept, clean
Breakfast: buffet, cooked and continental available

1 minutes walk to the royal armouries
Iron & ironing board available in a separate room - second floor I think.
Irons are not steam irons - disappointing

A lot of hen night and stag night groups choose this hotel
On the morning after our stay during breakfast, there was an unpleasant fight that broke out between a stag group and the reception staff.
The reception manager remained calm at all times and I highly respected his behaviour.
The unruly guests were rude, uncouth and unwilling to pay for damage they had caused to hotel property from the night before due to their drunken behaviour.

Staff was willing to move our room away from unruly hen group floor.
Overall, I would return to the hotel.
Longest stay period – 1 nights

I just stayed here, got a good deal £125 for 3 nights including complimentary breakfast. At first it seemed a way out of the centre but it is an easy pleasant walk. Staff were very helpful when I asked for advice, room was clean and it was remarkably quiet considering that there were several stag and hen parties staying there. Lots to see and do in and around Leeds (3 days was not long enough), we travelled by train (would recomend a taxi from the station with luggage) and visited Saltaire, by train whilst we were there.

In truth, I picked this hotel based mainly on the fact that it still offered smoking rooms. For the record these seemed to be located on the top floor, well away from the normal folks. Another bonus of this is that you don't have large groups of people hanging at the entrance making noise all night. I also wanted a reputable chain so I knew what I was getting. When you're picking a hotel NOT for pleasure purposes, I find it a lot less stressful if you can rely on a basic standard.
Arrived at 11pm after a massive drive and found the staff super helpful when presented with my dazed and overly jaded self . Room was of a high standard of cleanliness and was cleaned to the same standard each day. Decaff coffee included in the tea making facilities (always a bonus for me). Really comfy bedding and slept perfectly each night. A slight bit of door banging from the foot traffic in the hallway outside but not enough of an issue to fuss about. Breakfast was pretty basic but that's to be expected. If you're a veggie like me then you'll be ok.
Good location despite the approach roads which seem to take you through an abandoned industrial estate. Don't worry, when you arrive the hotel is in a modern complex built around the Royal Armouries. There's a bunch of restaurants and shops. The Leeds city tour bus starts right outside the hotel too for anyone wanting to kill an hour or so.
Overall a safe, clean and quiet hotel of good basic standard. Helpful staff and a nice location. Would use again if in the vicinity.
One point of note to anyone wanting to park here...There is a multistory next door which the hotel offers to customers for £8 a day (multiple entry). If you speak to the parking attendant when you arrive on site (24hrs), they can offer it cheaper. I got a weeks pass for £30.

I have stayed here many times as I have business at the Royal Armouries for which the hotel is very convenient. It is also quite close to the station and city centre - I invariably walk, if I am not using a car. A discounted rate is available for car parking in the next-door multi-storey car park.

On this latest trip the hotel seemed to be looking tired, in need of freshening up. Our room was an interior room, overlooking a rooftop, with noisy plant running all night. We had to open the window as the room was hot, and had a distinctly musty odour - as if it needed a thorough clean.

Breakfast was OK, but with very limited choice.

Reception staff were welcoming and courteous.

I'll use the place again as it is so convenient for my business. But if it were not for that I'd look elsewhere.
