Owner description: Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family attractions in Leeds and only three miles from the city centre. At Tropical World you can take a trek through the rainforest; stopping off briefly in the outback of Australia before a quick excursion through the desert, and all in the same morning! It is home to some old friends that include rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and the meerkats - the cutest family in Leeds. It re-opened in March 2015. This follows some stunning renovations that include the aquarium area transformed into a new Amazon themed zone where you can see new residents including piranhas and salamanders.

Have often been here and still remember the years ago it used to be free but haven't let it cloud mu judgement! The displays are excellent and the animals appear well cared for, HOWEVER there is a terrible smell from the bird enclosure pond and it really smells as though its never been cleaned. The aisle's are far too small for the number of people going through the exhibits and the many pushchairs and buggy's can hardly push past a single person on the same ramp. The charge reflects the exhibits you see but i'd happily pay more if I didn't feel like I was an ant in a giant greenhouse! Hope the planned expansion sorts that part of it out.

Thank Alex H

I visited Tropical World with my husband, mother in law and 11 month old daughter on a wet and dark Sunday. And this was the perfect place to brighten our day.

Although a bit rough around the edges (renovations are ongoing) Tropical World ticked all the boxes for a great family outing. The admission fee is a bargain for the amount of animals you get to see - butterflies, meerkats, reptiles and birds in nice, big enclosures with clear signage and information.

The building is very buggy friendly - my daughter loved the snakes as they were quite active while we were there...

I also recommend having the Welsh Rarebit in the Explorers Cafe which is made with their special cheese which has whole grain mustard in it - yum! The cafe is also pushchair friendly!
