Owner description: Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family attractions in Leeds and only three miles from the city centre. At Tropical World you can take a trek through the rainforest; stopping off briefly in the outback of Australia before a quick excursion through the desert, and all in the same morning! It is home to some old friends that include rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and the meerkats - the cutest family in Leeds. It re-opened in March 2015. This follows some stunning renovations that include the aquarium area transformed into a new Amazon themed zone where you can see new residents including piranhas and salamanders.

“Disappointing in places, really good in others”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

Tropical World is a cheap family day out , since our last visit there has been some improvements to some parts but there are sections of it that are in need of attention. We were disappointed by the lack of butterflies it was unbearably hot at 43 C and we only saw 6 butterflies , I have memories of there being a lot more in the past. There is a good selection of things to look at from snakes to insects , birds , bats etc. However some of the tanks were too dirty to be able to see what was in them this was particularly bad for the poor fish. Other areas whilst they weren't terribly dirty were not to a high standard and a number of people mentioned the smell , so reality check its £3.40 for an adult ticket so I'm sure people would think you get what you pay for , I am more bothered about the animals , if a place keeps animals they should be kept clean it just seems a shame for what could be an excellent day out , I would pay more to get in if that's what is needed to improve hygiene as I'm sure a lot of people would.

“Just average”

Sadly what could be good just peters out as there is not quite enough made of what is on show. I got the impression that it is a little tired .

“3 Butterflies, very dissapointed”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

Wednesday 8th May. Had been looking forward to a trip to see the butterflies. Our theory was that 42 deg. c. inside the butterfly house had cooked them all. One sat on foliage, one white one fluttering very slowly and one black and white one. It was unbearably hot. Why wasn't a notice displayed to inform us prior to paying the entrace fee? (we would have returned on another occasion).

“tropical world”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

After a nice walk in Roundhay park,my husband ,two daughters age 19 and 21 decided to visit Tropical World.I wasnt expecting much as it was only about £4 each to enter, but we all really enjoyed it.Lots of butterflies ,snakes, reptiles and beautiful birds to see, plus a large family of meercats. We only spent about one and half hours there but could have walked around again if we wanted to..A good experience which was great value for money.

“Excellent day for all family”
Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We came here on the may bank holiday for the first time and was very impressed. After finally getting parked on a very busy day we had a nice walk up to tropical world. The price for entry was very good . Once in it got very warm very quick as u can imagine in a place like this. The birds and other animals were brilliant but our fav was the meerkats. Overall it was a great day out but take a picnic with u and sit in the park if the weather is good. U won't b disappointed.
