“Good real ale house”
Reviewed November 27, 2013 via mobile

This place is an absolute dream for the real ale fan. Not a run of the mill so called " real ale " house, who have a few guest beers on to tempt you, Mr Foley's has a vast amount of beverages from all over Europe, what makes it special is that they also use local breweries, I opted for a pint of ghost ale., a stout from a York brewery, and with a strength of 5.6% I dare only have a couple as a long day ahead awaited me. The staff are so helpful too. If you're unsure what tipple to go for they let you sample a couple by pouring a drop in a shot glass for you, all in all a good , friendly well run bar, which I'll return to very soon

“Nothing special, given the competition in Leeds”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

This place, formerly owned by York Brewery, and now by Mitchells of Lancaster is symptomatic of the whole takeover of a great local brewery dedicated to good beer by a company that closed its brewery to concentrate on the pub trade.

They don't care about beer and its shows - ever since they took over York Brewery the beer has gone downhill. There are numerous issues with supplying the pubs they own rather than sending the beer down south and the quality of the ale they do serve has really suffered. You can see that as all of their pubs have lost their CAMRA Good Beer Guide status.

Mr Foley's is the same. Average, average, average and average is all you can say about everything it does. The beer, the service, the food and the atmosphere.

Put this alongside some of the great new additions to the Leeds pub and bar scene from the likes of Ossett and Leeds Brewery and you can see why this place is nowhere near as busy as it used to be. The question is - do Mitchells really care?

“Great Beer”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

I visited Mr. Foley's Cask Ale House on a mid-week Thursday straight from work. The place was quiet & the bar staff friendly. The beer range was great a mix of 3x York Brewery & 3x Guest Ales, I tried a York Centurion Ghost (an old favourite) and a Chocolate Stout both were well kept.
The bar its self is quite stylish & there is plenty of space to sit down & watch the world go by.

“Lousy meal and ill afterwards”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Went there on Sat 28th, never again. My thoughts are. Do not eat here unless you want to be throwing up all night. The mushroom soup was more like Weetabix and the burgers are more like rocks. The so called chicken fillet burger was more like cheap chicken nuggets. Will never eat there again

“Decent ale”
Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

Popped in here on recent jaunt to Leeds as I heard it was affiliated to York brewery. Very impressed to be fair, they had 6 cask ales on the go of which 3 of them were York brews and they tasted as good as the beer from the brewery itself. Had a nice chicken club sandwich which was a nice accompaniment to my Yorkshire Terrier brew. If you're in Leeds, like cask beer and fancy a good pint then this is the place.
