“Excellent light lunch near Leeds Railway Station”

Don't be put off by the tiny street frontage: downstairs is a much larger basement room where you can spread out on comfortable chairs.

The food was very good - not cheap, but excellent quality meats and cheeses, complemented by good wine and beers, and friendly, attentive service.

“Great craft beer, good wine and pig to die for.”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Visited friends of ham for a celebration with the better half, it was a Friday early evening, the bar was quite busy as it was prime after work drinking time but the staff were working hard and was served fairly swift with a smile.

The craft beer and local ale selection was fantastic, I got beavertown gamma ray, stunning hoppy beer and the mrs a glass of red.

Down stairs was cute, candle lit, busy but not crowded, the staff seam to be managing the numbers allowed down and this was nice. Large shared seating area down the middle and smaller fringe tables, there were fair few seats if you didn't mind sharing a table, we set up camp with many other couples and groups on this grand central table.

Then it happened I saw the food boards and knew I was in heaven and swiftly surveying the menu. Ordered near everything, rolled out the place having indulged far too much in the wine, meat, cheese, pâté and ale, all fantastic, not cheap but very good value for quality products.

As we left the bar was packed, glad we got in that bit earlier!

I will be back.

“Everyone needs a Friend.”

Yes it's trendy, yes it's busy and sure it ain't cheap but it's well worth pushing past the suits to sample one of the hand picked ales on offer. Hungry? The well-informed staff can suggest various tapas to compliment your drink - I can heartily recommend the black pudding scotch eggs. In summary embrace the hype and treat yourself.

“Expensive”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

It is a really lovely place to visit - very different from anywhere else in Leeds a quite quirky. Drinks are ok price but the food is extremely expensive - you can order a selection of cold cuts and cheeses, and yes they are expensive varieties, the portion sizes are very small and you will leave feeling hungry.

Worth a visit if you order a drink and sit downstairs.
