“Nice meal but not 5 star”
Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

Decided to grab a curry, reached for TA and found the Bengal Brasserie was the nearest 'good' Indian.

Food was nice, nothing spectacular, worthy of a 5, but a good solid 4. Not greasy, good portion size and with poppadums and a couple of beers, not too expensive.

Would recommend you give it a try, the only reason I won't return is that there are so many in the area, the good ones all deserve a visit.

“Best curry ever!!!”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

We go to his restaurant a lot and have never had a bad experience, the quality is excellent, the menu is varied and reasonably priced. It's not a big place, a bit like eating in someone's house really with a bar at one end. The staff are hugely friendly always very welcoming and asking how you are, I find this really nice. We have recommended this place to lots of people and have always received excellent feedback from everybody.

“We are amazed that this scores more than low average with Tripad reviewers !”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Very average in all respects.
This is a 'McDonald's' of a restaurant masquerading (due entirely to its Tripad reviews) as a venue to seek out for a great meal.
Wrong.
The menu ? If u like chicken tikka you can choose from half the menu, chick tik in a variety of guises, but still all chick tik.
It may be worth a trip just to read the chicken tikka menu, have a game and see how many you can find.
The naan was basic , didnt taste freshly made, and not very nice.
The pilau rice was bland and boring.
The lamb chops were cremated and actually crunchy, which is ok for diners who like dry overlooked lamb and I know some people like their lamb like this, but not me. This lamb must have been cooked more than once to get like this.
All the food we ordered was adequate for a basic curry house in the same way that McD is adequate for a burger, and nothing more.
But the prices are a good 25 percent premium to your local basic curry house and this is not warranted.
Sorry owners / management but round here we can get much better food/value at a whole host of curry houses.
Tripadvisor, we are disappointed ( see our other reviews and you can see we're usually very impressed by Tripadvisor recommendations)

This restaurant is fab, so welcoming by the staff they remember you each time. Even though it is quite small it always has a great atmospheer and is always busy so booking is advised. The food is fab.

“What a Gem of a place!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Me and my family regularly eat here and the food is outstanding!! its by no means "Average" or "soggy" dont think some of the previous reviewers were eating here!...The service as always is first class always greeted with a warm friendly face, waiters always asking if you need anything, nothing is too much trouble! The restaraunt itself is small, cosy and spotless and very reasonably priced...we have enjoyed many lovley meals here and wil continue to do so,if you're planning to go on a fri/sat evening you may be best booking as it gets very busy..i cannot recommend this restaraunt enough, give it a go you will not regret it... its not #1 for nothing!! :)
