I don't believe that 'The high level of callsetc.etc' was the reason for my eventually aborted 35 minute phone call at 11am on a mid week morning. I don't think the phone was manned. Honesty is the best policy, not a time wasting pre recorded message.

Have visited the playhouse many times and always enjoy the experience. They have a variety of interesting productions on throughout the year, generally something for everyone. Recently changed to allow you to take drinks into auditorium, which is a positive for me as interval drinks can seem very rushed.

I've been to many many shows, exhibitions and performances at this theatre. The restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. Many of the shows have often stars who are famous

Sweeney Todd closes and moves to Manchester after the weekend so you've probably missed this fantastic show in Leeds but The West Yorkshire Playhouse is a fabulous performance space. I don't think there can be a "bad" seat in the house. I have lost count of the number of times we have been to shows, plays and opera in London, paid highly inflated prices and been disappointed - by the performances and probably more often by the theatre itself. The WYP seating is raked so visibility from all seats is good and for Sweeney (possibly because of the brilliant musicians, singers and sound team) the acoustic was excellent. Excellent bar and cafe area with plenty of space.

Even for the cheap seats, there is not a bad seat in the house. The charm of an old and established London theatre like Her Majesty's invariably leads to a restricted view, missing the falling chandelier or the Phantom's midriff due to a gleaming gold rail.
What WYP lacks in romance it makes up for in allowing the show to take centre stage.

Sweeney Todd was mesmerising. Having seen the London show with Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball, I should be forgiven for lowering my expectations. The cast and staging made for an atmospheric and engaging race through one of the most appealing and delectably dark stories in theatre. Anthony may have said that there is no place like London, but WYP's production is more than a match for it, such that I went twice in a week!

As for the storyline itself, well that's the play, and he wouldn't want me to give it away.
