“Two visits both progressively worse.”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

Had a birthday lunch here for my partner. Alas despite being nearly empty the food (sandwiches) took an age to appear and when they did the food was both amazingly overcooked but stone cold. We complained and sent it back and was given a full refund. On the upside the waitresses were lovely and apologetic.

So we decided to give them another try for Sunday lunch today. We booked in advanced and was greeted by an empty seating station where we were left languishing for ten minutes with no one paying us any attention so my partner had to go to the bar and ask for someone to seat us. 5 minutes later we were told our table would be ready in 5 minutes at this point we were 20 minutes waiting from when we arrived at our arranged booking time.

So we sat for 10 minutes and again we were left stranded until again my partner went to track down someone to seat us. And we eventually got to be seated at a table that had been empty since we arrived.

We were given the menu and practically everything on the roast menu was sold out as well as many of the main menu items. So we ordered drinks and considered our options. Again we were left waiting an age for our drinks (two teas) by which point the screaming children, lack of choice on the menu and no drinks appearing we got up and left without a word and shan't be going to this establishment again which is a shame as the location is great and the décor is very good too, just a shame about the huge waits, and basic mistakes.

“Such a shame, now anti-children”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

My wife and I have spent many happy days and nights in the Fox over the years and up to recently enjoyed taking our youngest there for a meal after a walk in Roundhay Park. On both occasions recently, upon arriving with children, we have been treated like unwanted second class citizens. We were refused a table first time round but thought we would give it another go this week. Unfortunately no change in attitude from the Manager who reluctantly offered us a table but refused to let us enter with a buggy. Such a shame, needless to say we will not be returning. I'd suggest you try the White House which isn't far away, great food and much more friendly.

“Slow service, not bad food”
Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

Went here with some friends on a weekday and it was really busy. We ordered the sharing platter to start with, which took a long while to arrive. It was a weird plateful. Didn't know what the salsa went with, the Brie was in a pot and the meatballs etc were weird too. Wasn't sure at all.
For mains we had burgers, pie and steak sandwiches. Again it took a long while but nice when it arrived. Three of us paid for the gourmet chips. Not worth it at all!!
Service nice and friendly, yet very slow. Good menu choice though and nice atmosphere. One other grumble is the baby changing is in a smelly disabled toilet that's far too hot!

“Not impressed”
Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

Can't say that I am very impressed, slow service from the polite and friendly staff, the steak was cold as though it was left out 15minutes before the chips were ready! And a cold tomato! The onion rings were delicious but again cold! The chips were nice and hot.. But overall not quite up to the level that was expected! And not cheapest either!!! Pudding menu didn't have a price list, we chose not to have one!!!

“Very Nice and Local”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

The food was very well priced, served quickly and arrived hot and tasty. The pub can get very busy due to its popularity in the summer months.
