Owner description: Leeds MFA bowling centre has been around since the 1960's where it was once the biggest bowling centre on one level in Europe. The centre has hosted many prestige tournaments over the years and has a long running affiliation with bowling leagues ranging form the YBC (Youth Bowling Club) to the Seniors who bowl here every Friday. The centre has changed hands over the years and now is owned by MFA Bowl since 2011. We have only just installed the latest craze from Italy, FootBowl. We have the exclusive rights and Leeds has the very first one.

Went with family with a Living Social Voucher bowling for 4 and cheesey chips. First impressions from entering was "dated" looks shoddy and in serious need of a makeover. Eating/cooking area looked dirty, fridge doors etc dirty marks looks like the whole cooking area should be ripped out and new installed. Will not be returning.

I went with a living social deal....... thought I would give it ago, never again. The place was dirty, the there was no were to put your things ie no bench down the middle of the lane, only 3 seats. The markings had been rubbed of the board to set the game up, and no instructions, there was only 1 staff member at one point so to get started took ages, there was a poor selection of bowling balls, Our deal included chips.... the girl at the counter was nice and helpful, but then the girl from the booking desk came along and started to eat the chips in the basket with her fingers, what she left was tipped into a dish and given to us.

All in all very disappointing not even worth the voucher deal.

“Worst bowling alley I've ever been to”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Upon opening the door to the bowling alley you are greeted by a musty, mouldy smell like an old persons home, it's horrible. Upon this first impression most people with common sense would walk straight out but sadly I decided not to. We stood infront of the desk for 40seconds before the the receptionist decided to look up from whatever she was doing and greeted us with a surly 'yeah?'. Clearly she was very busy, ran off her feet - oh wait no, the place was empty expect for us. We paid for two games of bowling which only cost us £10 which to be honest is a good price. She handed us our bowling shoes which were literally falling apart and stunk and we went on our merry way.

Everything about the place is disgusting. From the unmanned bar to the food counter and everything in between it is grotty, rundown and dirty. It's the sort of place where you don't want to touch anything for fear of being contaminated with something. There were two other staff 'working' and by working I mean having a game of bowling and occasionally pushing a floor cleaner up and down the lanes. I went and asked one of them for assistance with setting up the games of bowling (didn't fancy another minutes wait for the girl on reception to acknowledge me) and he seemed disgusted to be asked for help.

Seriously never, ever go bowling here if you can avoid it.

“Dirty and badly staffed- a real let down”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

I went to 1st bowl leeds today with a couple of friends and their children. We got a fantastic deal on Living Social so didnt pay a great deal for 2 games. I was severely disappointed by this place. It is very run down, a couple of the lanes dont work and while we were there infact ours broke mid game so we had to move. The whole place has a dirty feel to it and I started to feel very sorry for the lady behind the desk who was fielding patrons questions, she did her best but she had to fix lanes, give out shoes and collect money in.
The toilet looked as though no one had cleaned them that day or the day before. Toilet paper all over the floor, none actually in the stalls to use. The toilets themselves had been over used and not cleaned I wont say what was stuck to the inside of the bowl itself but you can imagine. The cheesy chips we had were of a very low quality and all but one of the types of drinks was stocked in the drinks machine.
This bowling alley could be really good if someone spent some time and money on it. But do yourself a favour and go to the one on Kirkstall rd (thats the one we usually go to) it has a much nicer feel to it.

“Lively without being too noisy”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

Was rather pleasantly surprised by 1st Bowl Leeds as i did expect it to be old and tired (like the Merion centre it is in) but actually it's much better than the more modern Holywood Bowl. I went with a party of six a mixture of adults and kids and we had a good time. The place was quite busy so had a good atmosphere but not so noisy you couldn't hear what you were saying.
Can't comment on any refreshments because it was 10am so we didn't need any but all the facilities were fine and the place was very clean and the staff efficient.
