Description: Situated on the rather swish York Place, close to Leeds mainline railway station, Miah’s Place is an Indian restaurant with a wow factor. Right from the outset you really know that you’re in for something special – the restaurant is set within one of the old red brick buildings, behind wrought iron low fencing, its subtle signage indicating that Miah’s Kitchen, a small scale chain making waves throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, is perhaps a little more special than your average Indian eatery. Through the portico-ed front door you’ll enter a stylish dining room furnished in an unusual Art Deco inspired style, with ball topped lamps, sensuous lines and low slung leather seating, all in low key tones. Miah’s Kitchen offers an extensive menu of old Indian favourites, ranging from tandoori dishes to biryanis and baltis as well as a good collection of specialties created especially for the restaurant, using contemporary and traditional techniques. Surprisingly affordable, Miah’s Kitchen provides an upmarket take on Indian dining without the price tag.

Stunning beautiful food. The naan bread was cooked perfectly and the restaurant was really busy. Great Indian restaurant.

Located centrally just a short walk from the station Miah’s Kitchen is a gem. From the initial warm welcome to the end I had a lovely food experience. The accompaniments to the poppadoms were different, coconut and something hot that was not lime pickle for a change. The Mango Lassi was to die for, not too sweet and clearly made from scratch. Ambience was good even though I was eating early, it was a Thursday night and it soon filled up. Popular for takeaways as well as the prices seemed very good. Service was attentive and polite but not obsequious. Waiting time was just long enough to convince me they were cooking from scratch but not too long as I was hungry. Slightly theatrical presentation of serving the starter but the food was excellent. Moist chicken in onion and mixed spices sauce. Just the right balance of heat and spice leaving you wanting more after you have cleaned your plate. The mixed grill was lovely and served with pride. Sagg paneer was moist and tasty and the Bindhi Bharji was fresh and filling. A complimentary glass of fizz at the end if the meal was a lovely touch so all in all an excellent experience and well worth a visit if you are in Leeds on business or as a couple. A great alternative to Akbars if you are staying in the city centre.
