This museum has the most realistic and extensive recunstructed Victorian slum street I've been to- it is eerie, fascinating and doesn't hold back on the horror of living in such horrendous conditions. The medical history is also brilliant and very well set out. The apocethary shop is fascinating. I have been twice from Liverpool it is that good!
The desperate lives of the Victorian poor whould never be forgotton.

bored, took my two grandkids and my daughter, they didnt like the smell, they werent interested, and couldnt get interested in it,if it was a school trip for older kids then maybe it would have worked, though my daughter is 11,and grandson 10,the most exciting thing for them was having their pics taken by me

We visited the Thackray Medical Museum as part of an organised trip at University - it's an annual trip for Student Nurses at our campus.

The place itself was quite big and it would definately get your moneys worth spending at least half a day wandering around the different sections. It has an autheticly set up walk through area looking back at Victorian Leeds and the medical condtions and treaments then. It also has a sections focusing on advancements in diagnosis of disease, treatments and surgery as well as a pregnacy and birth section.

Additionally, it has a variety of interactive sections - you can follow the stories of various characters from the 'Victorian Leeds Section', it has a 'Life Zone' which includes interactive games foucusing on various parts of the human body.

For us it was quite interesting and informative to look at all the historical medical peices but I found that it's more orientated towards children and younger teenagers.

interesting museum with so much to look at and really friendly staff. shows how people lived with the problems of disease in the early 20th century through model streets - all very realistic. teasy to find and well worth a visit. There may even be too much to take in for a single day though!
