Many people today would not realise that Leeds was once a place that was known for its engineering. The Middleton Railway rightly claims to be the oldest continuously running railway in the world and its right here in Leeds. OK its not the National Railway Museum but thats a national museum this is a smaller place run by volunteers.
Steam powered locomotives on rail services are but a distant memory for older people today but here in Middleton, Leeds you can see working engines and even ride on a steam train. This is a small part of the history of the industrial revolution but unlike many museums you can actually touch the locos and talk to people who drive and maintain them.
