As far as hotel chains go, you could do a lot worse than choosing the Malmaison / Hotel Du Vin chain. They always offer exactly what I look for in a hotel and my most recent visit to Mal, Leeds was no exception.

Tasteful and modern with a classic design twist, the guest rooms are as aesthetically pleasing and attractive as the public areas are, though public areas such as the lobby are generally a tad more theatrical. There was a flat screen TV and DVD player in the room which was large and spotlessly clean. The bed was also very large and extremely comfortable, there was an extensive pillow menu, in-room internet access, a nice sized bathroom with great complimentary toiletries, room service was fast, tasty and decent value (for a hotel!) …everything you could possibly need or want and I really can’t think of anything to complain about!

Whilst the Brassiere downstairs is not the best place I have ever eaten at, the food was reasonably priced and the menu gave adequate choices. A nice touch was the new seasonal menu options they offer and although the bar area was very busy and rowdy (Saturday night), the dining area was quiet and we dined in relative seclusion. The waiter service was good, and he was helpful and knowledgeable in assisting us to make our meal and wine choices.

Service at Malmaison Leeds is always efficient first and friendly second. It would be nice if they did pull out the stops a little more on the customer service side and tried to make you feel at least a little special; smiley, friendly banter never fails to win me over it must be said.

In my opinion, Malmaison Leeds is the ideal place to choose if you want to treat yourself to a special night or weekend away and I will definitely book to stay there again in the future and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Have stayed her regularly over the last year for Business purposes in Leeds and have found this hotel to go down in my estimation over the last few months. You have to know which rooms to request as tyhere can be quite a difference in quality for the same priced room. Teh corner rooms with views of the canals have more light and feel fresher than any of the others which is important in an already dark feeling hotel. The food is not as good as it should be and I find the meals heavier than they should be with a lack of any real fresh food on the menu. Twice their drycleaners have lost items of clothing which despite the compensation is a real pain. The location is excellent but the hotel is starting to feel dated already and will continue to do so unless they keep an eye on the decor. On the whole though a good hotel with caring staff who do a good job at meeting your needs. Better than The Calls in my opinion which feels a bit shabby.

My wife and I stayed at Malmaison Leeds on August 12 for our anniversary and loved it immensely.

We had one of the superior rooms overlooking the river on the 4th floor (a bit of confusion on check in as the room we originally booked was out of service). Huge bed, room was very clean and the bath was a nice size too ;-)

Breakfast was lovely, just not enough of it!!!

Shame the drinks are a touch pricey though, i bought the wife a cocktail and was astounded to see it cost £8 for little more than a mouthful but there you go.....you pay for quality!

Stayed at Malmaison in Leeds on Saturday night as a treat with some friends.

Have stayed there quite a few times before and it is one of the best hotels in Leeds. Stylish place, rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Our room was a bit noisy though on Saturday - we were in a room looking over the main road, and there was a lot of noise outside the hotel, probably better being on the canal side if you have a choice.

However, last month we stayed at Malmaison in Liverpool and the service was unbelieveable and has set a benchmark which the Leeds hotel doesn't meet. Staff at Leeds are definitely not as helpful and attentive, the food and service isn't as good.

So although Malmaison Leeds isn't perfect, it is still a good place to stay.

My husband and I had a wonderful night at Malmaison. We have eaten in the restaurant on many occasions and always been impressed by its intimate surroundings, great service and lovely food. We couldn't resist a fabulous rate directly from the hotel's website £99 dinner, bed and breakfast - for both of us.

Having stayed in Newcastle and Manchester Malmaisons before we love the decor, and Leeds Malmaison did not disappoint. The room was stylish with wonderfully high ceilings and a good sized bathroom. The beds are so comfortable with lovely sheets. The food as always was very good, with both an excellent dinner and breakfast.

I was surprised to read the previous review as every member of staff was extremely pleasant, friendly, courteous and professional. As we entered each area we were greeted, and we were also thanked as we left. This extended to the housekeeping staff and the door men outside. We also had great fun with our waiter who went through the 15 different cheeses from the cheese board with us.

Great place, service, rooms and food.

Booked a private room for a pal's 60th birthday bash on Saturday the 28th of July and it was a truly awful experience. Cost us near on a £1000 for the night for 12 people and the service was non existent. Average food ,cramped seats and staff who hated working there.Don't go to this place. Never again !

Regular Malmaison customers will find the Leeds hotel meets most of their usual expectations. The hotel in centrally located and certainly the reception and bar area have a certain buzz that helps make the "trendy" set feel at home. Rooms and service are great. I have three reservations - (1) no car parking with advise from reception to park in the nearest NCP offering a 10% discount for customers staying more than 24 hours (2) my room had almost no windows - which would have been a little dissappointing had I been staying more than one night (3) breakfast was not up to the standard of other Malmaison hotels that I have stayed at - limited buffet - kippers were boil in the bag not fresh. Otherwise a great place to stay and the price is certainly on a par with the larger chains.
