Our bed and the room were certainly not a 'large double', as suggested by the hotel's website. My partner, who is 6ft 1, didn't fit in it! There was only one large towel in the bathroom, suggesting it may have been a single room.
The shower was jammed onto boiling hot and couldn't be used.
When we complained on check-out the response was one of casual indifference. I then complained by e.mail to the manager who (after some delay) invited us to stay again (at our expense!) and be upgraded.
I wouldn't bother. Have stayed at more comfortable places with better attitudes at better prices.

We stayed at the Malmaison in September as work had paid for me and my partner after getting great sales results. Found the hotel with no bother and parked in the allocated car park.
Reception friendly (although key did not work first time) and was disappointed with size of the room. Wanted a few drinks in the bar before going into Leeds and was amazed at the ridiculous prices. A vodka and coke and small glass of wine was nearly £15. Meal was good and staff friendly. If they made the bar more price friendly then they would get more people in there drinking instead of heading into town. Not particulary awful but would not stay there again as was quite disappointed after reading the hyped up webpage.

Only stayed one night but what a great experience.
Staff were exceptional from receptionists to bar and restaurant staff and housekeeping staff.
The late check-out on Sunday morning was fantastic - it is really worth booking Sunday brunch to take advantage of this offer. A lazy lie in on a Sunday morning really helps recharge those batteries.
Food in both the bar and the restaurant was excellent.
Rooms were well furnished and although ours was small was quite adequate.
Loved the bathroom toiletries.

We went to the Mal for a cheeky nights stay on their special deal £99 wine and dine...we arrived found the recommended parking and checked in fine..polite friendly and very informative...I was told that £149.00 is taken from your card and then if you dont have any extras this is refunded (as was the case) on checkout...the rooms are lush! massive bed loadsa extras they actually encourage you to take for free (smellies in large bottles) all other food and drink in room and mini bar is chargeable...theres loadsa info suppied in the room about eating out etc...for our £99 we got the evening meal and a glass of wine inc and breakfast...we had a lovely meal mini fish and chips in a mini fryer, difficult 2 eat but lovely presentation and was yum, my fiance said it was the best beef he had ever had....wine was nice, service great...night stay comfy bed, dvd's you can borrow for free frm reception...breakfast was yum 2 plenty of choice...was great had fun...the area in leeds its situated is the very posh end so bars and restaurants around reflect the price but are great too....we received discount off our recommended parking and was just a short walk frm hotel...all in all we had a great time...highly recommended

Very impressed with this hotel - it was chic yet personal, and the service was good. The rooms had great decor, although one or two minor areas that needed refurbishing, but generally very good. We ate in the restaurant and were similarly pleased with the ambience, service and food. The hotel was close to the main shopping areas and very close to the station. We stayed on the "Wine & Dine for £99" deal, which was excellent value for this level of accommodation. We will definitely stay in Malmaison hotels in the future.

The problem with this hotel is that all the effort is on being pretentious/hip/modern/trendy (take your pick) ie the focus is on the hotel and not on the customer. So there is a lot to like about the rooms and the general decor (see other reviews) but the managers are clueless on the attention to detail that makes for a great stay. No real sense of a place where the top managers are present and observing.

So, muesli is meant to be available for breakfast (pricey) but it only turned up on our third day. The breakfast bread is 'cut your own' but on only one day out of three was it linen wrapped for hygeine. The tea/coffee in the rooms had nothing with cafeine (yes, with) and they took two days to rectfy this. They know they have a big problem with cold draughts in parts of the restaurant but they still sit people in them (we got ourselves moved and so did most others). The restaurant is great value on the prix fixe but the al a carte is very mediocre against the price. The restaurant is so dimly lit that we had to have a lamp moved to read the menu! The bass from the music from the adjacent bar leaks into the restaurant in a wearing way. The tap water is scalding but you cannot run a bath, adjusting the taps, without leaning over the water you have run, because of the design of the shower screen. Fine once you know, but v dangerous the first time or for anyone frail.

The starting assumption of the staff seems to be that they don't need to look out to improve the place bacause 'hey it's the Mal (sic)' so it must be groovy!

just came back from 2 nights in this hotel. Its was beyond my expectations. Stayed in the Newcastle and Manchester Malmaison and i would have to rate this over both of those. The style of the hotel is beautiful, trendy yet elegant. We booked a standard double room (cost only £79 for fri night and £89 for the sat night) - i requested a "nice room for my partners birthday" in the notes section of the booking form and they certainly delivered. We had a rcorner room at the back of the hotel (room 209) facing onto the canal with full length curved windows. Style and deco was fantastic.bed was soooo comfortable i didnt wanna get out of it. Bathroom nice an spacious. Only complaint was there was no extractor fan in bathroom and only the tiniest window which you couldnt open so the bathroom stayed steamed up for ages and this was the best mirror for lighting for getting ready.
Overall i would recommend this hotel 100% to anybody.
