The hotel is a fantastic location for exploring leeds. We booked in to a director room, with a river view. The room was fantastic, really comfy bed, loads of space etc. For us, the important factor is the hotel being dog friendly, and The Calls nailed it - the room had a water bowl and some treats out for the dogs on our arrival.
overall, really impressed. friendly staff and reasonably priced. the one minor complaint is that the wifi wasn't great.

Room Tip: ask for a river room

Stayed the night at this splendid hotel Friday 21st September and found it so comfortable we returned the following Friday 28th. Loved the warm welcome and found it really is a hotel that welcomes dogs. The dog bowl and bottle of water for Spider was a really nice touch.
We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast package that was excellent value for money ( the food at Brasserie 44 was just lovely) and the breakfast was one of the best we have ever experienced. Loved the huge choice of sausages.
It is a little noisy at night but being in a fab central location we expected that and were not unduly bothered.
Give it a try!

The location of this hotel is great, only a few mins walk from the Corn Exchange and less than 10 mins walk to the train station. It is on the side of the River Aire in an old mill and the original refurbishment is tasteful and has maintained the buildings character but unfortunately it is a bit tired and is ready for a new one. I was informed that the refurbishment has started in some of the rooms. I would have loved to have visited this hotel when everything was new. As previously stated by other reviewers some of the furniture is marked and worn but it didn’t detract from the overall ambience. The bed was huge and very comfortable with plenty of pillows and cushions. Nice touch that there was ground coffee as well as the normal tea and coffee choices. We arrived early and left our bags at reception and when we returned after an afternoon of shopping the bags has already been placed in our room. We were greeted by pleasant helpful staff and the complimentary glass of wine was appreciated. We returned to our room about midnight and discovered that although the hotel is very quiet from within the noise coming from the street was very loud, shouting and footsteps across the metal bridge outside. I contacted reception but because the hotel was busy they were unable to change our room. The noise went on until 5am and it was like having my bed in the middle of the street. The following morning Helen Bradshaw was aware of our complaint and dealt with it appropriately. I do hope that the hotel sorts this issue out , something like secondary glazing might assist. Avoid room 215 unless you take very big ear plugs with you.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room and don't stay here unless you are allocated one.

It was 10 years almost to the day since I had last stayed at 42 The Calls. It was just an overnight stay with my wife and some friends. The room we had was on the ground floor, it was nice but small. It was a warm nigh and without air conditioning we had to open the window. The central location is great, apart from when you want to sleep and everyone outside is still haveing a good time (until about 3am on the Saturday we stayed). Staff were friendly but the glass of wine we were promised on arrival never materialised.
Not a bad place to stay, but there are plenty of better and cheaper places in Leeds.

Room Tip: River rooms have nice views, but the river can be a bit smelly in summer. Upper floors are less effected.

We only stayed 1 night but it was a great stay, there were lots of extra little touchs, soap frogs which made me chuckle, home made short bread and fudge and lovely china mugs for my morning cup of tea. The staff were very helpful, and most apoplgetic that they couldn't put us in a room with a canal view, but that was fine as I'd only booked it the day before we stayed. Was a little noisy with the church bells on Sunday morning, but it was 10 am. Bedding clean but needs a bit of a spruce up, carpets, furniture, but lovely and clean.Had both bath and shower. Would definatly stay there again.
