“UNDER ADVERTISED BUT SO WORTH A VISIT”

Rodley Nature Reserve has been on my "to do" list for ages and so glad I chose a scorching Sunday to make my 1st visit. Easy access from Leeds and Shipley on the 760 bus. Quaint approach over the canal swing bridge, in use often on Sundays to let narrowboat pleasure trips go by. The reserve is free and run by volunteers who give you a warm welcome. The visitor centre sells unpriced food and drink on a donation basis. Don't worry if you're not a keen birdwatcher as the tranquillity alone merits a visit, as do the views to be had from the many benches dotted around the site. Kids are catered for with pond dipping activities.

Fantastic week on a beautiful canal. Florence from canal boat escapes was only boat i could find with 2 showers and double cabins either end of boat which allowed privacy for 2 couples.Great bathrooms and showers and plenty hot water once engine running. Had a slight problem with the toilet not flushing a few hours after we left the boat yard but service was excellant and someone came out to fix it within half an hour. The leeds liverpool whilst a wider canal than we are used to is absolutely stunning, particularly as we had excellant weather. The swing bridges and locks are reasonably well maintained we thought for the section we did between Barnoldswick and Saltaire. lots of friendly people we met and having an unlivered boat meant we could pretend we were experts! would highly recommend this canal and boat company for novices or experienced crew alike.

The Leeds and Liverpool canal is a well tended waterway with a nice level path running alongside it that makes a great walk. The area around Newlay/Horsforth is really nice and there are plenty of stop offs to explore with woodland and some lovely local pubs, particularly the Abbey Inn. Recommended for a great walk and just be wary of bikes, some of which do go fairly fast and close without any warning.

the tow path makes for easy walking and there are interesting things depending on which part you are walking. The 3 and 5 rise locks at Bingley are especially worth a visit, and the walk from Bingley to Saltaire allows a return walk by the river for a change of scenery.
