The Met Hotel Leeds
Ranked #43 of 87 Hotels in Leeds
Reviewed April 1, 2008

I've just returned from staying one night with a group of friends.

After reading the reviews, I was not looking forward to it at all. At check in I ask if the hotel was being refurbished and the receptionist confirmed it was - but we were in a refurbished room on the second floor (226). The room was a little small, but very pleasant, bathroom was obviously new, and the facilites very good, decent hairdryer, iron, ironing board, tea and coffee - we have no complaints at all - the room was quiet and not too hot !!

My only complaint really was the prices at the hotel bar, £7.50 for a white wine spritzer - which I think is over priced for Leeds!

Breakfast was very nice - plenty of choice.

Recommend places to drink like Tiger Tiger and The Living Room - overall quite impressed !

This hotel is perfect location, literally two minutes walk from the station, and plenty of places to eat and drink around the corner. About 5 minutes from the main shopping - such as Harvey Nichols etc. I would go back !

The Met is a strange sort of place - neither as bad as some of the submissions describe nor as good as a four star rating might be credited. The hotel itself is minimal in facilities. A minimal bar, a minimal food venue / restaurant. The breakfast is quite decent with plenty of options beyond the Full English. The coffee is strong. The staff are quite helpful. The rooms are quite modest and floors still creak with age. The hotel is well kept but four stars??? The price seems four stars. The bright side is that the rooms facing the inner courtyard are quiet if you are away from the elevator. The hotel in general was over heated and ventilation even with an open window in winter was minimal. Might not be the spot in warmer weather. Located somewhat off the central venue district but close to the train station was convenient for some things but a 15 min walk from the University.

The Met hotel in Leeds, supposed to be a 4*hotel but personally wouldn't give it a 2* rating.

The hotel is advertised as unique and contemporary having been recently refurbished and they pride themselves on the attention to detail. The rooms were dirty and the bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned for a very long time, had to request house keeping to clean it before even considering to use it.

If you want a 4* hotel based on location alone then this is the hotel for you, being fab for the convenience of Leeds city centre. Cleanliness however is certainly lacking in this hotel

We booked this hotel without reading any reviews, it was too late to change our minds by the time we did. On arriving we tried to park our average sized family car in the hotel's carpark which was next to impossible, take our advice get there early the car park has limited spaces and be prepared for the fact it costs £10 a day to park. When we got to reception we were greeted by a warm friendly and helpful receptionist, we were given a room on the fifth floor, in a hotel of this size we would expect more than just the one lift, we opened our room door and were puzzled as to why it didn't resemble the photo on the hotel's website, afterall this is a four star hotel, AA rating no less, The room was in a sorry state, dirty peeling wallpaper, filthy dirty net curtians, rotton window frames, with most of the paint peeling off, the bed was saggy and dilapidated, but clean enough, TV with no remote control and no mini fridge, seems picky but remember this is a supposed four star hotel. The bathroom was large but again did little to resemble the websites description, no two sinks in this room just a badly chipped bath complete with off white shower mat. We awoke the next morning and went down to breakfast, the receptionist at the resturant was again warm friendly and very helpful, the resturant was everything that the room wasn't, spotlessly clean, excellent food and helpful attentitive staff, overall the rooms let this charming hotel down, would we stay here again, I have to be honest and say no.

We booked 2 twin rooms, requesting a low floor for a weekend break. We were allocated rooms on the 5th floor which were more youth hostel and not 'upper standard 4 star hotel standard. One room was not ready, the other had a window which didn't shut and the room was freezing. We were moved to the 4th floor were the rooms were a better standard but definately not 4 star. There was wallpaper hanging off one wall, mould around the bath, the water in the shower was cold (it eventually got hot if you ran it for about 10 minutes), there were dirty cups and out of date milk on the hospitality tray. The dining room was lovely and the breakfast was good if you could manage to get hot coffee and the items on the cooked breakfast were all ready at once (I waited 20 minutes for a fried egg one morning,I gave up in the end)The hotel rooms are shabby, the hotel seems poorly run 'on the cheap' with staff who are obviously not trained sufficiently, not the staffs fault, they are all hardworking, polite, friendly and helpful.Leeds is a great city,go there but stay somewhere else.

As a young couple we were looking forward to a weekend away in Leeds, after booking we looked at the reviews on this website and was quite worried about how the Hotel was going to be as the reviews on this website were misleading.

Arrived at 6.30pm on the Friday and as it was our first visit the receptionist upgraded us to a contempary room on the 4th floor. Got to the room and it was perfect, room well decorated, bed freshly made, bathroom clean with fresh towels and we were over the moon with our baragin stay. A big plus also was the car park which was £10 for 24 hours (may sound a lot but when you know your car is going to be safe then its worth it) and 5 minutes away from the shops!!

Just looking forward to going again next month!!

This hotel is a must and is now our little secret getaway!!

I was almost put off by the other reviews - ignore them! This is a well modernised city centre hotel (very close to the station). Yes, some of the rooms are slightly on the small side, probably where the en-suite has been put in, but pleasantly decorated and well equipped. The food, both dinner and breakfast was good.

It's not perfect: reception whilst efficient was not particularly friendly, service at dinner was slow and inefficient, the lift has a (totally unnecessary) buzzer that you can hear in nearby rooms and some of the bedrooms are unbearably hot even with the radiator off and the window open in January.

Would certainly stay there again.
