The thing I like about Leeds is that there are as many great "bars" as there are great "traditional pubs". This place is firmly in the upmarket bar mould that is a hybrid and deliberately so.
Market Town Taverns have tried to appeal to all types with this pub and have largely succeeded. They concentrate on an excellent draught real ale offering for this casual drinker whilst having a dining area to suit the lunchtime and teatime trade and the food is a notch above the usual ping-chef pub chain fayre. A decent wine list complements the food menu.
One nice touch that made me smile was that in total contrast to the national pubchain websites that emphasise food and wine and seem to ignore what pubs came from historically, the Veritas website has a Drinks section that is totally dedicated to real ale, continental beers and bottled beers.
What a tribute to a company that realises that the heart of a pub is great beer supported by great food rather than the ersatz gentrified gastropubs that should really just be called restaurants...
