“Friendly Staff.....That's About It”
Reviewed November 18, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here for 1 night on business the shared car park with the nearby carvery means the parking spaces are extremely limited and this was midweek. Upon check in the receptionist was very friendly and helpful issued me with a free wifi code which I must say isn't always available at holiday inns I have stayed in in the past.

I was a little disappointed that I had been placed in a twin room as whenever my company book me into a hotel I've always received a double with this chain. Along the corridor an 'overpowering' use of air fresheners gave the impression that some foul smell was trying to be covered up.

The room was very cold and although there was a fan heater in the room the dust on top of it would have just blown around and into my lungs so I chose not to use it.

The towels were extremely hard and whatever they are washed in smells awful

Breakfast was (like all the holiday inn express chain) very substandard and whilst they always say its 'free' anyone with half a brain could work out its subsidised in the price of the room they wouldn't lose money so I suggest charging a little extra if they had to and make the breakfast fit for human consumption I settled with a yoghurt and a bowl of cereal as the the eggs were runny and swimming and the sausages were like bullets.

A few slight improvements could help raise this hotel but definitely the worst one I have stayed in and have since requested my company never put me here again

Dear Matt2470,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. It is unfortunate the accommodations and breakfast prevented you from fully enjoying your time at the hotel. Just a quick one nighter for a works bash. Check in easy enough, Room spotless and recognised my PC status with a free pint. Bed was comfortable and shower pressure adequate. The only issue I had was that my word they cleaedr breakfast up quickly so only managed some toast - I wasn't in a rush to get out.
Standard HI Express affair and good value for money. Easy enough to get into Leeds or out in the surrounding area.
Note though - enter via the pub next door, turning left at the roundabout takes you off into the wllds of Methley.

This is a review of a two night weekend leisure stay. We were visiting York but with a long drive back to Kent did not want to stay in the city. York is easy to get to from this location.

We like the Holiday Inn Express brand and this did not disappoint.
Situated a couple of miles from either J30 of the M62 or J44 of the M1, it is easily found and in a quiet location on a roundabout.

Check in after a long drive in the dark in poor weather was the usual efficient experience. Having an IHG club card may help but the people are genuinely friendly and welcoming.

Our double room was on the ground floor - not sure if there is a second floor- and was the usual very clean. Wall mounted radiator with controls.
Bathroom -shower only and separate loo all spotless.
Unlike HIE Walsall from where we had just travelled, this has a wall mounted flat screen TV which liberates a bit more space in a compact room.
Hanging space limited but OK for a couple of nights.
The bed was not particularly comfortable, but that may just be us.
Complimentary Wi-Fi always welcome. I think everyone gets it at this location, best to check.

Breakfast- the usual buffet arrangement, with hot food excluding bacon. All good.

There is no dining on site, however there is a Toby Carvery next door which is also perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced.

The hotel has a public area where one can get drinks from the reception. No snack bar as in some other HIE locations so arriving late as we did (10pm) is too late for the Toby and leaves just crisps and sweets from a vending machine. There is a list of takeaway establishments so that is an option.

Any downers?
Not really, the shared car park with the Toby Carvery puts parking at a premium, and arriving in the pouring rain on a Saturday evening when the restaurant was full was a hassle when no spaces were available for a while.

All in all an excellent choice and we shall look at his again if we are in the area. Really nice people.

Room Tip: No particular suggestions.

From our experience of the Holiday Inn Express chain in the USA - and from reading the many excellent TripAdvisor reviews of the hotel - my wife and I chose the Holiday Inn Express Leeds East for our two-night stay and we were glad that we did. Not far from Junction 30 on the M62 (and only a couple of miles from the M1), the hotel is easy to find (turn in, to the left, where you see the Toby Carvery - the hotel is just to the side of the restaurant). We received a warm welcome fron the front-desk staff and were allocated a first-floor room on the rear (and quieter) side of the hotel. The room, although smaller than rooms in the USA, was clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate. There was (as there now is in all UK Holiday Inn Express hotels) free Wi-Fi. The bed was comfortable and the free breakfast was more than adequate (juices, cereals, grapefruit, scrambled egg, sausage, baked beans etc.) The breakfast was certainly much nicer than the over-sugared offerings that you always seem to get in the USA and how nice it was to eat off proper plates with metal cutlery (instead of cardboard plates and plastic cutlery). The car-park appears to be on the small side but if you drive a little way past the hotel's main entrance there is more parking available. We thought that the room (we paid £59 a night) was remarkable good value and we were very glad that we chose to stay in the Holiday Inn Express Leeds East in Oulton.

Room Tip: The rear side of the hotel (away from the road) is probably quieter.

Just got back from a lovely, albeit brief stay at this hotel. Used as a stopover when visiting family so a quick 12 hour stay. The room was ready on arrival and very nicely furnished etc.The bed was very soft and bouncy but fine for a one night stay. The car park was on the small side, managed to get the last space left but had to exit the car via a bush! (maybe I should have arrived earlier) Breakfast facilities were small but more than sufficient, a nice selection of quality produce. Check in / out was quick and easy and the staff really helpful. Great idea having a bar behind the reception :-) Nice little touch in having additional supplies at reception if you forget some toiletries. A great little hotel and wouldn't hesitate in staying again. Their was a Toby Carvery next door to the hotel but wasn't there long enough to sample it :-)

Stayed for one night en route to Whitby. Excellent value for money and a warm, genuine welcome from Karen(?) on the desk. Breakfast was a great set up for the day and everywhere was clean, tidy and just what we wanted.
