Stayed overnight on Saturday 21st September after our daughter went up to Leeds University. Decided to stay away from the centre and very pleased we did. The Midland was like going back 20 years to a real pub. Early evening it was busy with a christening party, men watching football and it felt good. We chose to eat there and whilst it was not special it was acceptable and the staff were very friendly. Our rooms were clean and the ambiance good, it was good value for the money and very different from the budget value hotels. Later in the evening there was a birthday party with live music and an excellent atmosphere. We slept well and had a good breakfast included in the price. Overall this was a nice experience and something different. It is easy to pick faults but I would certainly stay again, much better than the Premier Inn/ Travel Lodge experiences. Well done to the staff !

Room Tip: Room 4 is a nice family room

I stayed here for a family birthday party being held at the Midland on Saturday night. We stopped in family room 5 as i was traveling with my parents. When we first arrived the staff at the bar where you check in were really friendly and helpful and showed us to the stables. We were pleasantly surprised to find a lovely spacious room and even more surprised to find a very spacious ensuit bathroom. The room was clean and tidy with adequate tea and coffee facilities and a small flat screen TV and smelt fresh. A hair dryer had also been provided. First impressions were great apart from the fact that we had to clean the toilet properly as it had just been sprayed with a green liquid and left and the floor seemed to be really slippy in there as if it had been polished? But there were plenty of towels and the rest was clean. The Midland pub itself was a bit of a let down as there were locals in there quite clearly drunk by 6pm (which was fine) BUT they were swearing loudly and makeing fun of people blatently out loud and the use of the C word in front of children was awful! I think the manager needs to at least control this type of behaviour as i can't see it attracting many new travellers. Usually that type of behaviour is not tolerated by any landlord or manager, we moved different seats around the pub because of this as it was very uncomfortable and put a downer on the surprise party for us. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 10:30am but we were up at 9:00am because they'd decided to have some refurbishments done outside our bedroom window! The breakfast was lovely and decent portions, cereals, juice and jams provided and the English breakfast was nice. I would recommend the accommodation for a night of your travels but I would give the pub a miss I'm sorry to say as the staff were lovely! Sorry.

Room Tip: I would reccomend room 5 family room 5 for being spacious and a lovely sized family en-suit

Thank you for this valuable comment and yes it was a diffucult night with a boisterous group back from the football which overspilt from the tap room . I apologise for any upset they may have caused. The group were quietly asked to leave on a number of occassions and eventually they did so just before 9.00pm. I agree it could have been managed better and I take your comments on board. Thank you

We had just dropped our daughter at uni, so after a very tiring day we needed some nice to stay. The Midland Hotel was just right. Very friendly welcome. Our room had everything we needed. Nicely decorated and lovely fresh clean linen. Had a lovely evening meal and full English breakfast was delicious. Would stay there again if we were in the area

We recently booked in at the Midland Hotel as we were going to a reception at nearby Oulton Hall, warm greeting by staff but that is the only good thing i can say about it. The window was open and the reason for this was the horrible musty smell. The furniture is all old but painted up to look new, towels dirty grey colour. We had to book a breakfast slot on arrival which is unusual to say the least. In fact the place was so foisty that after the evening at Oulton Hall we came back to the Midland and because the window had then been closed due to our possessions been inside that the smell had intensified to such a degree that we did not stay the night but posted the key back and drove home.

I stayed here for 2 nights with my dogs in July, and I could not fault the premises, or staff.
The food served in the pub was fantastic, and the breakfast was a great start to each day.
The room was bright clean and comfortable. It was a great size too, travelling with 2 large breed dogs I was expecting a standard small room, but it was very spacious
The staff were friendly and very helpful.
The walking routes nearby for the dogs were fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. So much so I am returning at the end of august.

Room Tip: If you have dogs I recommend room 4. It is a family room, with a double & single bed, and I trav...

We stayed at the Midland on a motorcycle trip to the south of England. Room was Ensuite, good sized and beautiful and located in a separate building. You get your own front door and we were able to park the motorbike right outside. The hotel bar was busy with locals and did good beer and good food. Beds were very comfy. Would recommend.
