“Great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

I have a Tastecard so decided to book dinner here for my friends birthday,as we can enjoy 50% off food. I am a huge fan of Japanese food, my friend had never tried and and had heard that this restaurant was amazing and thought would try it. We called and requested an late afternoon as you cant use taste card on Saturday evenings but she advised that we could come at 6pm which was great.

Upon arrival the place was deserted, we sat in the bar area and ordered drinks and chose our food. There was no atmosphere, but we were greeted by a friendly waitress, who took our drink and food orders promptly. We were then led to a table to be seated by the grills.

We were not sat long before we were given our starters. They were nice but not amazing. Soon after our chef, came over and started preparing the food. He was a lot of fun, very entertaining and made the whole experience fantastic he made jokes and had a laugh with everyone. All of our party had a brilliant time. The main course was great, we ordered the set menu and had scallops prawns steak chicken and veg. It was all cooked to perfection. We were all so full we went straight home as couldnt face a night of drinking!!

It must have a slow evening as we left around 9 and only few people were in but we will definitely return, we had a brilliant evening and would recommend maybe get there early or not be bothered about having a relaxing slow meal.

Oh and get a taste card!

“Used to be Brilliant! Now brilliantly BAD - Avoid!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

What a shock! We've visited this restaurant over the past few years saving it for special occasions - sadly we will not be returning. There seems to have been a change in ownership and the service has now declined to a miserable state of affairs. My daughters 21st birthday will certainly be memorable but for entirely the wrong reasons. A Japanese with no Japanese beer - just Bud or Becks. No lime cordial or slices of lemon along with flat coca cola. We should have left at this point as the evening (turning into bedtime) was much worse. The waitress could hardly speak English (not a good start). Our table was booked for 7 with only another 4 diners sharing our table (total of 10 people in the whole place). We were seated at 7.30 and half the starters arrived at 8. Followed by the rest of the starters 15 minutes later. The chef finally arrived an hour later to cook the food which was served to us in cold bowls and plates. After devouring our food as we were literally starving the chef returned when we had finished to see if we would like our veg! No thanks. One guest was outside have a cig and another guest was in the loo. What a shambles. We honestly believe our orders were taken and they went to the supermarket to buy the supplies. This is the only logical explanation for being sat in this draughty restaurant for 3 and a half hours for a 2 course meal. The food itself was lovely but seriously we went out for tea and eating at 9pm was pushing our limits. We gave up ordering drinks as we had to wait for so long whilst the waitress disappeared. When presented with the bill we were astonished to find £30 added for service. Jeez... What Service???? We will not be returning to this disaster of a place. This is such a shame as it used to be such a fantastic experience. How long they can stay in business with this shambolic service will remain to be seen. There seemed to be no point in complaining to the girl that served us as her grasp of English was so poor she struggled with coffee! Again we do believe she nipped out to buy provisions as the coffee eventually turned up after 15 minutes of ordering. What a complete waste of £200.

“groupon deal”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

very smelly, staff inattentive, forgot about our starters, we had a dessert included in the deal and no dessert arrived. when asked about dessert staff said there should be ice cream but they have ran out. no offer of a different dessert or cheaper bill or even a free soft drink. just shrugged shoulders. not coming back for sure.

“Don't waste your time”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

Don’t bother, its a shame because when we did finally get the food it was nice BUT the service was shocking and the manager is a waste of time. She has no people skills what so ever and was not interested in anything we had to say. I am not normally one to complain or ever write a review but it was such a disappointing evening and i would never go back.

“Great food, fabulous chef, give them a chance!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

I must say, when I read the recent reviews I was hesitant to give this place a try... but I'm glad I did. My husband and I have a Tastecard so decided to book dinner here as we can enjoy 50% off food. We are huge fans of Japamese food and had heard that this restaurant used to be amazing in the past.
Upon arrival the place was deserted, with only 2 other people in the bar area when we were seated upon arrival. There was no atmosphere, and this worried me. However we were greeted by a friendly waitress, who took our drink orders promptly. We were presented with menus and a waiter, Homer, took out orders and soon led us to to a table to be seated. By this time a few other people had entered the restaurant, and a group of 6 people we seated next to us at the table, around one of the grills. This is the nature of Japanese Teppanyaki dining, so we weren't bothered being seated right next to other people when the rest of the restaurant was empty.
Our chef, Michael, soon came over and started preparing the food. He was great fun, incredibly entertaining and made the whole cooking and dining experience fantastic. Everyone at our table had a brilliant time, and there was a lot of laughter. The food was delicious, and to top it all off, Michael even serenaded us on his guitar after he finished cooking!
I noticed during the time we were eating that the restaurant had filled up and there were now a lot of customers. This really added to the atmosphere. I did see that there were only 2 chefs working, so the people who came in later on during the evening would have had to wait for the chef to finish cooking for us, before he moved over to their table. However this didn't bother us, as we had a booking for 7:30pm. I would definitely recommend this place if you are a fan of Japanese food or want to try a unique dining experience.... the one thing I would recommend is that you book a table early, so that you don't have to wait for a chef.
We will definitely return, we had a brilliant evening.
