We’re just back from a long weekend in Howarth, which was made all the more marvellous because of the wonderful service we received at the Old White Lion. The hotel is extremely comfortable with clean rooms, welcoming bars and a restaurant that had a great ambience and excellent food. It was all you would want from a hotel. It was, however, the staff who made our stay one of the best we’ve had anywhere. The reception staff welcomed us in like old friends, the chamber maids were all smiles and helpfullness and the handsome barman made us feel right at home. Special mention goes to Aggy who, despite working long shifts all weekend to cover holidaying staff, was an absolute treasure and was always cheery. We noticed that the staff all appeared to be a friendly group, happy to be working together. A happy workforce is a productive work force and the Old White Lion team are producing lovely holidays for those staying there. The Old White Lion is the hotel to stay in if you are visiting Howarth and the surrounds. Don’t waste time looking anywhere else!

I stayed in the Old White Lion on a recent trip to England and it was a treat. Warm and welcoming the staff made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. The rooms were comfortable and the food was excellent (You must have the fish pie...to die for!!!) Tiny village in the north of England this place is a treat. I would go back (not in winter) and stay in an instant!

A great place. Friendly staff, great food and beer, brilliant breakfast, room comfortable. The room was a bit small but clean and attractive and everything worked, and had a lovely view over rooftops to the country beyond (room 12). Couldn't fault it.

Just got back from a 2 night break at this lovely little place. It was everything we expected and more. Very friendly, helpful and informative staff. The bedrooms were very clean and more than adequate. The food in the restaurant was really lovely and also very good in the bar. The breakfasts were piping hot and massive portions. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Room 8 has a lovely view
