This pub really does tick all of the boxes when searching for an idyllic place to stay and experience the lovely North Yorkshire village of Haworth. 16th century with lots of character. We had high expectations, lots of walking, a cosy, warm and friendly Inn and good food.

As with so many pub's renting rooms our arrival was not warmly welcomed as punters got served in the bar. Downstairs is lovely but the bar was already part full and quite noisy with the music pounding out.

When we were taken to our room it was directly next to the landlords family accommodation on the first floor, with all that you'd expect, childrens bikes, furniture, laundry. Their door was wide open and the normal sounds of a family evident. No problem there but we could have had that if we'd stayed at home. It was just an indication of the problems we'd encounter. As the afternoon wore on it became obvious that that was the start of a birthday bash that was to go on into the early hours of the night. Despite the afternoon noise no one came to explain or apologise. Certainly not a good idea when renting rooms over the duration of the party!

We couldn't rest in the mid afternoon for the pounding music in the bar and kids running up and won the corridor and knocking on doors, perhaps kids from the party. Our evening meal was very overpriced, both resembling noodled dishes, the prime fillet of beef had so much gristle in it I had to go to the toilet to pick it out of my teeth. Slow food service too.

We had a lovely time in the village of Haworth, but when we got back the Old Hall was obviously THE busiest (but not nicest) pub in Haworth, packed to the gills and with the odd fight thrown in for the bargain. The dettol smelling bar toilet also wafted upstairs to our room. Our room, being directly above the bar meant we had a restless sleep as the loud juke box music went on until 1am. To top it all we were awoken at approximately 5am when a young boy from the party was crying and distressed as he'd been locked out of the landlords flat. No one from the landlords flat came out to him. My wife went out to him and spent many minutes trying to console the boy, knocking for ages on the ladlords door, eventually a slurred woman let him in with barely a thankyou. The next morning, the landlord listened to our sorry tale and perhaps due to his headache seemed indifferent to our complaints, reluctantly offering a £20 deduction for our troubles. He declined to give us a full refund. Never again will we stay in such a dreadful Inn, the experience so vivid that even now after many months I feel compelled to write about our experience.
