“A little disappointed”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Been a long time since was here, just fancied it, however might have caught them on an off night, very greasy popps and the rest of the meals were just ok, nothing great. I know its at the budget end of the market and that's its appeal, but I used to go when a madras was £2 or so and the food was great, now most curries are around £6, the Biryani's were especially disappointing at £7 each.
May well give it another go in the future on a different night, but wont be rushing back.

“Cheap and mostly cheerful”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Have eaten curries here since I can remember and nothing has really changed (a good thing!). Still like the original curry houses that popped up in Bradford. Everything is very casual and you can rock up at any time and can be guaranteed that it'll be open.

Sat upstairs on this occasion (although I recommend sitting downstairs for a faster service). The menus and table could have done with a clean but the restaurant has a relaxed feel with a mix of different people. Ordered starters (all £1 or under- amazing value)- pakoras, mushroom bhajis and onion bhajis- all were good. Got free salad and poppadoms with dipping sauce as we waited.

For mains we got chicken vindaloo and tarkha Dahl with pilau rice and garlic naan. The Dahl was good and something I always order and the spice was just right. The pilau rice I got with this was also good but rather greasy- and it wasn't really spicy (normally I expect cumin in this), but was really colorful and good to look at. The chicken in the vindaloo was cooked really well however it lacked anything special and wasn't very spicy which was what we were hoping for as the sauce was quite watery. The garlic naan could have done also with some more garlic. Both the curries also came with free chapatis.

Overall this place hasn't changed one bit since my first memories of eating here- it's cheap and cheerful for the most part. For all of the food mentioned above it cost £15- great value for money, and the service was friendly and causal as always. A good place to go if you want lots of food on a budget. You wouldn't get this amount of food for that price in many other places!

“Best curry in years!!!!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Back to Bradford after nineteen years on a memory trip with my brother, we headed back to The Kashmir with slight trepidation-would it be as good as we remembered?? Oh, yes, it was just as we remembered-the restaurant looked the same and the curry was exceptional. It cost £13.70 for a fab meal for two including poppadoms, chapati, onion salad, raita and the best onion bhaji on the planet-delicious!! Makes me want to move back up to Bradford!!!

Fabulous cafe. More somewhere to take your mates than your mum but fantastic value and great simple home cooked food. I go maybe six times a year, travelling to do so. Love it

“A great place to eat”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Really good food in a cafe setting. One of the curry cafes that Bradford became famous for. Seems basic but you are here to eat good food. You must have seen it the other way around when the show is first and foremost and the food is poor, at best.

I first went here in the late - the food is still great the down stairs area is almost unchanged but the prices seem to have increased above inflation and now the gap with a full on restaurant is narrow. Must be the cost of the flash new entrance
