This just shows what you can do with a little effort and a good chef. The Royal having been closed for several years has been transformed into a local pub with a reputation for excellent food.
Five of us visited for the 2nd time and again the food was quality. The chicken and Royal (meat) pies are huge and so very tasty with a lovely pastry topping . A little tower of proper mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked fresh veg accompanied them very well. We asked for some extra gravy which was not a problem. The fish and chips were sublime and again ample portions. Coq au vin also very good.
On top of this we had a very passable bottle of red for under a tenner. Very refreshing. We will be back time and again with this standard of food at these prices.
