“Fine collection and exhibitions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

This city art gallery is a mansion set in the middle of Lister Park. It has a fine permanent collection and I particularly enjoyed a detailed look at David Hockney's early years in Bradford and an exhibition of Anish Kapoor sculpture.

A great cultural treasure for Bradford- some great exhibitions reflecting the diverse nature of the city, its geography and above all its history!

“Intriguing collection and exhibitions, but inadequate visitor facilities”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

I organised a group visit for our Art Society. We very much appreciated the guided tour by a volunteer guide, and were fortunate to visit on the first day of the Hockney Early Years exhibition. The mix of western and world art in the collection is unusual and intriguing. However, several of our group were disappointed at the lack of seating (especially those with mobility issues) and all felt the atmosphere to be rather unwelcoming, with no facilities at all for refreshments (comparing unfavourably with Leeds for example).

“Lovely in the fall”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

We visited when the trees were just turning and the Lister Park that houses the museum was absolutely wonderful- I had to take lots of photos of the colours and the trees- beautiful- there is a lovely boating lake and cafe nearby and there is a lovely landscaped garden area housing the most fantastic red acers which were stunning in th Autumn time.

The Hall itself looks quite imposing from the outised but is fairly cosy within. It houses all sorts of exhibitions and events and has a homely atmosphere about it- not cold and impersonal like some museums can be.I am told that there used to be a bee observatory- that would be nice to re house...something different. There are various oil paintings which have glorious gilt frames and exhibitions scattered around the rooms. It is good to see that the place is used all year round and for various events. Worth the trip- and to walk arouind the gardens/park area which apparantly won an award some time ago for one of the best parks around.
