“Downmarket”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

Though the staff were welcoming and pleasant, they clearly do not know how to care for their cellar. The ale (Tetley's Cask) showed signs of effervescence and did not behave in the glass as one would expect. I suspect secondary fermentation! Choice of food is more like a MacDonald's menu with a lack of quality choices. The food was presented well and had been well cooked. However, the poor menu and terible beer means that I am unlikely to return or recommend.

“Good food, good atmosphere, comfortable surroundings.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

Went for tea after work with a friend. The place filled up very quickly which is a good sign. Service was good, staff very friendly. No fancy gimmicks with pricing eg 2 for £10, but still good value for what we got. Will definitely return soon!

“A Great Local”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

We live very close to this pub and regard it as our "local". We've been going there for around 8 years and have seen some real lows..... mainly due to the big turn-over of managers. However, since Andy Taylor came in (I guess nearly 2 years ago?) it really has improved. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the food is pretty good (especially for a chain pub - it belongs to Ember Inns) and our dog is allowed on the patio and in the beer garden. It used to be a "no children" pub but recently children have been allowed in, if dining, which is a shame but I guess that's a brewery decision to increase customers. I am pretty sure though, that Mr. Taylor would not tolerate any behaviour that annoyed other guests. The decor is getting a little tired and it is a shame the Ember don't seem to be prepared to invest much in the building itself. I wouldn't let that put you off though... I don't think you'll find a better reasonably priced pub in the area.
