“Customer care slipping”
Reviewed April 18, 2008

I have used this hotel several times.

I have to say that my last visit was very disappointing and requests for compensation have been refused. In fact I haven't even had a response despite writing to the manager three times.

Customers are no longer this hotel's first priorities. Will not use again.

My husband and I loved this hotel. We were going to a Valentines Ball at the Hilton in Bradford. Having read the reviews for the Victoria we decided to stay here instead. As it was Valentines I upgraded our room to a Superior with a four poster bed and paid £89 directly through the hotel. The room was a great size with lots of space - sofa, flat screen tv, dvd player and a bed, which I can only describe as a "Princess and the Pea Bed". You had to climb on to it but it was incredibly comfortable and we both had a wonderful night's sleep.
The breakfast was fabulous - we always like hotels which enable you to order what you want as opposed to buffet style. The building itself is fabulous with wonderful high ceilings, great iron work with a large staircase running down the middle. The corriders are extremely wide and give you the feeling of a by-gone era. I felt like royalty walking down the staircase in my ballgown...Definitely recommend this hotel.

I had been booked to stay at the Marriott Leeds - but read a review of this hotel in the Times - and thought why not!

Bradford is one of those places which has a mixed reputation to say the least - however it does have the National Museum of Film and some of the best Victorian architecture about.

At £69 B&B through late rooms - it seemed a bargain. I stayed here about 10 years ago when it was a forte hotel - pure faded glory - but a great refurbishment has taken place - and the character of the hotel retained.

This is a Grand hotel in the sense of the Railway Hotel and it stands very proudly in the centre of town.

Delightful staff, easy checking and a great room. The layout was a bit odd - however that was due more to the building than design. Great windows with double aspect, and a good bathroom.

All mod cons, LCD TV, very comfy bed.

Breakfast did not start till 8am which was a bit late for me - but was worth waiting for. Good cold selection with freshly baked pastries. Hot breakfast cooked to order and of a good quality. It was a delight taking breakfast in such a grand wood pannelled room, proper linen, and attentive staff.

Overall - I was very impressed, and if in the area again would definitely consider staying. The hotel is currently converting the top floor to penthouse apartment suites (though no sign of the work) and these should be stunning.

  • Liked — A great boutique style hotel in a grand old dame
  • Disliked — Bradford may not be everyone's first choice - but try it!

Stopped here in October 2007 for a weekend away to take in some football, whilst the other half pottered about a few shops and wasted more money on clothing she didn't need.
Anyway, the hotel is ideally located in front of the bus/train station with ample free parking to the side of the hotel. This was handy for me as buses departed frequently to the football ground from outside the bus station.
The furniture is very modern throughout the hotel and it is evident that a heck of a lot of money has been spent on making this a boutique hotel. Lots of brown leather and bright coloured cushions.
Our room (number 108) was very spacious with a very comfortable double bed (4 poster style). The bathroom was also very modern and came well stocked with toiletries and plenty of clean towels.
The shower was powerful, just what's needed to blow the cobwebs away after a few beers the night before.
Within 10 mins walk from the hotel are some excellent curry houses (we tried one called Omar Khans which was very good), but if the evening meals are as good as the cooked breakfast then I'd recommend eating in the hotel restaurant if curry isn't your thing. I had the full English breafast which was plentiful and not at all greasy. The other half is trying to lose her belly, so she opted for the continental option which she tells me was very nice.
At £69 for the night including breakfast (Saturday night) I found this hotel excellent value and would recommend it to anyone thinking of stopping in Bradford. If I had a minor quibble the cleaner could have hoovered our room a bit better before we arrived, but overall the room was clean and the bathroom spotless.

We stayed at the Great Victoria for 1 night in August. The hotel was a little tricky to find, but once we got there it was quite pleasant. The hotel had some original features and it was very well served. However, the room we stayed in was small and had no air conditioning which made it a little uncomfortable. The bed was a good size and comfortable and the bathroom was modern and clean. Overall, we were happy with the hotel for the price we paid.

I Found our whole experience Amazingly mind blowing, a hotel of this standard in the middle of Bradford! untrue until now. i've stayed in the Hilton & the Midland Hotel before now but there not a patch on the GREAT Victoria hotel truly slick.

The staff were all very helpful , Louise on reception in partucular. she should be cloned. The Food in the restaurant was spectacular compliments to the chef and his team Jo in the restaurant looked after us well.

i will definatly be recommending this hotel to all my friends and family for future bookings in bradford.
