“Wow! Real Indian food in Hampshire”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

The Masala Gate is a little piece of Indidan heaven in Chichester. We arrived at 7pm on a Friday night and the place was busy and seemed to be full of regulars known to the owner.
We asked him to choose our food and were not disappointed. The dish affectionately called the Christmas Pudding will remain with us for a long time! The food is full of flavour and the tastes develop after the first mouthful and are well presented. Great blends and true Indian cooking outside of India. the staff are friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A night to remember and one to repeat again and again! The kitchen team work hard to produce great food and with not a long wait. they also run a delivery business too! Highly recommended if you want real Indian food.

“Wonderful!”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Marsala Gate is way above the average Indian restaurant for service, presentation and quality of food. Dishes on offer are more interesting than in most others and flavours are subtle without being bland. Highly recommended.

“Flavoursome Indian Food”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Having visited this restaurant a number of times before, I have always been impressed with the quality of food and flexible menu. This time I had friends with me who needed convincing Indian food can be tasty without having the 'heat'. This establishment just does that by providing a variety of excellent dishes for all tastes. We had a selection of starters which were all well cooked and presented (converting my friend's wife immediately). As it was my friend's birthday we chose a selection of main course dishes so that we could all sample the different flavours on offer. The management offer flexibilty in menu choices and are keen to provide good service by adding a free dessert and glass of brandy to celebrate.

The restaurant is small and can suffer from being a little cramped when busy, but if you want good tasty Indian food this is a good place to start.

“Great food, great service, great atmosphere!”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

We first visited Masala Gate some years ago after it had juist opened and my wife asked for something that wasn't on the menu. The owner immediately said 'No problem Madam' and they conjured it up, and from then we have been fans. The curry style is not red hot. Hot enough to know it is Indian cuisine but they serve very spicy, tasty meals rather than the dishes that require you to put the loo rolls in the fridge ready for the morning! Vindaloo is NOT on the menu! The Jalfriezi is hot enough, or a Naga, or Chilli Chicken if you like it spiced, and you can always request it to be extra hot if you prefer it that way. However most dishes are incredibly tasty an well presented. Portion sizes are big enough to require a 'doggy-bag' upon occasion.

You will be greeted and seated quickly, and drinks arrive whilst you choose your food. Delays in service are not something we've experienced and we have been there many times. Service is well paced rather than fast for an evening but this isn't the sort of place you can dive into for a quick bite. But we don't like to be rushed anyway. Some places you get the impression they want to feed you and get you out so they can fill the table again. Not here. Make an evening of it and you are fine, the atmosphere is lively and drinks keep arriving so there's no problem! Relax!

For 'take-aways', again because of the type of cuisine you need to leave about an hour as in our experience this is the sort of time it takes. That is because everything is cooked to order: whereas many curry houses have all the basic sauces prepared and just stick whatever in to make this or that dish, hence they can be ready in minutes. So ring through and then collect later or get it delivered, but don't expect it to arrive in 15 minutes. But it's worth the wait!
