“A Hidden Treasure - Loved it!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We stayed two nights in the front chapel suite and loved it's cosiness. We were made extremely welcome and enjoyed the company of two delightful couples over a scrumptious breakfast each morning. The big country kitchen table works wonderfully and our host was excellent at making everyone fell at ease as we munched on delicious fare. Our dog was made welcome and he loved the fact that he got to play in the grounds with the visiting dog in the neighbouring suite. It was all very laid back and we loved it. We had a lovely, relaxing break and would heartily recommend.

Room Tip: The rear Chapel Suite overlooks the fields to the rear of the property, whereas the front chapel has...

I stayed here with my family for a couple of nights expecting a lovely experience but I was very disappointed. It was not the 4 star B&B I thought I had paid for.
Beware of the sharp turn into the parking area off the road alongside the cottage, not easy to spot the first time you approach it.
We stayed in the cottage rooms rather than the chapel and maybe those are 4 star, the cottage rooms are definitely not. You enter by a side door that perhaps was a front door at some time and straight away we smelt a musty smell. I wondered if the rooms were not as often used as the chapel rooms and that was the reason for the smell. The host rushed around opening windows, she was clearly aware of the musty smell.

The 2 rooms were a good size, the room with patio doors being nice and airy with a lovely view over farmland.
Tea and coffee are provided with some nice biscuits with the biggest cups I've ever seen! We didn't bother with the mini fridge in the room, the humming noise it made was too much at night.

Breakfast was requested to be chosen from a menu the night before, that was ok to do. There was an interesting variety each day.
We could access the breakfast room through an adjoining door which was good this meant we didn't need to go outside to get to the kitchen in bad weather. Stickers on the door as a notice let it down, it wouldn't take much to improve that with a better sign.
We enjoyed the big table at breakfast, it was nice to have everyone sat together. The hosts were very friendly and very chatty, ok at first but it got a bit too much after a while.
Breakfast was ok but didn't match up to the AA award I saw, for me. I had mushrooms one day and I don't know how they'd been cooked but they were just dry and unpalatable.
No separate toast was offered, so if it didn't come with your breakfast there wasn't any. This is the first time anywhere in a B&B that I haven't been offered toast!

One of the bathrooms did not have a bath mat and not wanting to slip on the tiles I borrowed the one from the other bathroom and found when I took it off the side of the bath there was a great big crack all along the bath panel, no wonder there was a mat covering it! The water pressure wasn't always good and we had to use just one shower as the other produced only a dribble.

Back to the musty smell; we noticed the floor was damp near where the kettle stood but thought maybe some water had been spilled during the room servicing, but the next day the floor was even wetter! We began to conclude that this could be why there was damp. There was a chair standing over that area, a funny place for a chair now we knew why! Then looking down the side of the cabinet next to the wall there was mould there :( Could be there was a leaking pipe from the en suite in the next room.
As I said before the host knew of the problem, there were 2 or 3 odour neutralisers in that area that didn't do enough to disguise the smell. We didn't discuss it as we were leaving that day but left feeling let down by the host as she didn't mention it or apologise about the problem.

I could not recommend staying in the cottage rooms, too expensive for what we experienced.

We are sorry you were disappointed. I agree about the odour I did notice the carpet a little damp and had dried it off with a towel the next day it started give a odour and it obviously a milk spillage. We did not want to embarrass you if it had been you mishap, which I realise now it wasn't. So I treated the areas with carpet shampoo then vinegar which stops the offending smell but leaves a musty smell. We do not have damp problem just a accident that was not reported. So please accept my apology. As for toast we usually always ask if anyone wants toast, tea & coffee and I never leave the breakfast area to be on hand if anyone needs anything, so again I am so sorry if I forgot ask.

We have stayed at Old Chapel Forge twice now ... Both over the Christmas break when we have travelled from Singapore to see family in West Sussex. We really love it ! Sandra was SO friendly with our 6 year old and even made her poached eggs in the morning without the yolk. She thought this was magic and still regularly demands eggs 'Sandra Style!'.
Couldn't recommend highly enough. Very comfortable, cosy and friendly. And the geese in the garden ?! Just an added bonus to our enthralled daughter :-)

We had a super stay here in July 2012. Great breakfast served by fun hosts and owners. We have no hesitation reccommending this great B&B come holiday house. The two rooms in the Chapel are big enough for a holiday not just overnight!.

Well situated to access lots of this great sussex coast we spent the day at West Wittering and the next on Bognor Beach.

Lovely room in the chapel, beautiful setting, really comfy bed. Lovely garden for having a coffee and taking in the view. Love the resident geese. Top class full english breakfast in the farmhouse kitchen, Sandra and Charlie are great hosts and make you feel really welcome. This is without any doubt the best B&B we have ever stayed in. Only stayed for one night for Goodwood races. Next time we will stay for the whole weekend!

A beautiful and handy setting (for both Chichester and Bognor Regis), lovely rooms, environmentally friendly, and delicious selections of breakfasts. You could not expect a kinder hostess than Sandra. Full stars and would gladly make a return visit!

Room Tip: The chapel rooms are, obviously, the special ones, but any room here will make for a pleasant stay.

We spent two nights at old chapel forge and we loved it. The chapel was really comfortable, warm and spacious with plenty of room for both of us. All the amenities you need and Sandra's breakfast were amazing. Sandra was very welcoming and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed our morning chats with Sandra ove breakfast. We will return next year and stay at the chapel again, hopefully in the other side of the chapel which over looks the beautiful south downs. We went into arundel about 8 miles away and enjoyed a full day out. Great place to stay.
